I'm so tired I can barley move. But I have to walk through those doors and spend 7 hours of my day cramming knowledge that I will probably never use into my brain.

As I walk in, I witness the usual high school picture. Couples holding hands, students looking stressed but happy to see their friends after the summer.

I was minding my own business when the devil himself came strutting toward me in all his glory.

"So, Tara. Dating anybody?"

He asks like we are at a casual lady's lunch.

"No. School work is more important to me. Sure it would be nice but I'm not exactly the hottest cookie in the oven."

He chuckles. That bastard! He's laughing at how pathetic I am. I guess I kind of deserve it though.

" Really? Well then I'll have to look into that." He says whispering in my ear. It sends shivers down my spine. He walks away with a big goofy grin on his face.

I walk to my locker and put my books in there. I take out a note pad and a pencil case along with my phone and slam the locker shut. Just as I do my friend Kim comes over to me.

Kim and I had been best friends since 4th grade. I love her so much. After Quinn's death, she and I got a lot closer.

"Hey girl! How was your summer? Sorry we couldn't hang out. I was in.."

"California yeah. How was that by the way?" I asked her.

"It was gorgeous! I had an absolutely amazing time. Hey, you should come with me during summer break this year!"

My face broke out into a wide grin. Maybe I didn't have to spend the summer by myself after all.

I nodded. "Sounds great! I would love that. Thanks for asking. It's been hard without Quinn, but you've made me feel so much better."

She smiles and grabs my hand.
"Come on, let's get to class!"

We run down the hall towards Mr. Comacazie's room. His name is damn hard to pronounce, so I'm hoping I can get it by the end of the year.

Later at lunch Cory pulls me aside.

"Hey." He grins widely at me. I can't help but stare at his eyes. They are a piercing blue.

"Hi." I say back a little flustered. He chuckles at my reaction. "Why are you nervous Tara?" He asks a little concerned. "I'm not I'm just.....um..a little weirded out that's all." He relaxes as I touch his arm which freaks me out a little more but I ignore it. "So, what did you want to ask me?" He smiles again and continues. "I wanted to ask if you can come over after school to help me with my essay?" I nodded and said ok. "Wait!" He called after me. "Yes?" I ask a bit confused. "Um..I just wanted to say thanks." He said scratching the back of his neck. I said no problem and he awkwardly waved goodbye before continuing.

Well that was weird.

I got to my table with my sandwich and sat down in between Jenna and Kim.

"How did Ryan not get an A? I mean I helped him study!"

Jenna is complaining about her boyfriend and how he never really pays attention when they study.

"I know! Joe didn't listen to a word I said! I mean, how am I supposed to help him if he won't stop being so damn difficult?"

I sigh because unlike my friends, I am a single pringle. I just begin eating my sandwich. Their boyfriends are football players, and they are friends with Cory because he is on the team too. I guess we are kind of popular but not as much as Chloe. Speak of the devil....
