The loud ring of the bell filled the classroom.
"Not so fast, remember what I've taught you," Mr. Matson began.
"The bell doesn't dismiss you, I dismiss you," groaned the class in unison. He grabbed a stack of papers and began to pass them out to the class.
"I know you're all in a hurry to get outta here, but this is important. As you can see on the papers, the school's uniform policy is changing. There are photos of how boys and girls uniforms should fit. Head to the office to pick up or order a uniform. I expect each and every one of you to have the new uniform on on Monday." Another groan from the class.
"What!" Lex exclaimed.
"Aw, you're gonna look so cute in the new uniform!" Hannah said to Lex.
"No, I need my jeans!" Lex whined.
"You'll survive," Summer giggled. Lex pouted. The girls continued to chat with the adorable, pouting Lex. In the back were Joe, Max, and Teresa.
"Honestly, what do they all see in him," Max said to Teresa.
"Really, like sure he's cute, but like, that's about it," Teresa agreed with her. Max turned to Joe.
"Sorry, I know he's like your best friend, we like him too, but I just don't understand why everyone is so in love with him."
"Yeah, it's really weird," Joe agreed. He pushed up his totally hipster glasses as he usually did when uncomfortable.
"Alright, class dismissed," Mr. Matson announced.

The students filed out of the room and headed for the office. The office was huge, filled with many different rooms. Groups of kids went to try on uniforms to find one that fit. It appeared to Max, Joe, and Teresa that most of their seventh period class had beat them there. Stepping out of one of the rooms stood none other than Lex, wearing his new uniform. A group of girls surrounded him. His shoulder length brown hair looking great with the way the uniform fit on him.
"Lex, you look so cute!" They heard one of them say.
"It fits you so well!" Said another.
"Your hair looks even more hot now!"
"Omg like Samson!"
"You look so strong!" And so on and so on. Max made a fake gagging sound and pointed at her tongue. Teresa laughed and pulled her arm leading her to where they would go to try on their uniforms. Joe looked uncomfortable, but then again he always looked that way. The girls urged him to come on and he followed.

"I don't know if this really fits me," Teresa said from inside the room.
"Well come out and we'll see," Max said.
Teresa opened the door wearing her uniform.
"Omg no, you look totally cute!" Max said, "doesn't she look cute, Joe?"
"Huh? Oh yeah, sure." Max looked a little confused but she brushed it off. She heard a vibrate coming from her phone.
Hey, where are you?
Oh, shit. Max forgot she was supposed to meet up with Jenna after school today.
Sorry had to go to the office,
New uniforms today.
We'll meet up tomorrow. She texted back.
Oh, God. Lex was walking over.
"Hey, Lex," Teresa said.
"Hi, Teresa! You look really good."
"Thank you," she said. The other girls were practically dying. Did Lex like her? Were their chances ruined? This couldn't happen.
"Lex! Come here!" Kylie said.
"What's up?" He said, walking to her.
"My back really hurts, can you carry this for me?" She said, referring to her binder. Instead, Lex grabbed her backpack and carried that.
"Thank you," she said. The two of them usually walked home together. "You ready to go?" Kylie asked.
"Yep," Lex answered. The two left the office with their new uniforms.
"It's about time we started heading home," Teresa said.
"Bye, Joe!" They said. They would walk home with him if he didn't live in the opposite direction.

Joe headed out of the office quickly. He needed to get home. He felt like crying but there was no way in hell that was gonna happen until he was safely hidden by the four walls of his bedroom. As he was walking he found this statement to be untrue. A single tear slid down his hoodie-hidden face.
"Hey, Joe!" Lex called out. He quickly wiped his tear and put on his happy face.
"Hey, Lex, isn't your house the other way?" He asked.
"Yeah, Kylie and I are getting ice cream though," he answered.
"You should come with us!" He said. Kylie looked disappointed for a moment but perked up immediately.
"Yeah, it's the one down the corner of Fourth and Fremont," she said. Joe really wanted to just go home and cry, but he wanted to go.
"Okay, sure," he said, finally feeling as happy as he looked.

They got their ice cream and sat down. This is what Joe had craved. Time and attention with his best friend, not surrounded by girls. Yes, Kylie was here, but she was nice and not overwhelming. The ice cream shop was cute; hot pink, bright green, and white. Joe sat quietly, waiting for someone to start up conversation. Finally, Kylie decided that they were to talk about Lex.
"Didn't Lex look so good in his uniform?"
"Uh, yeah," Joe answered.
"Oh my god, Joe! Did you see that it came out?" Lex said, talking about a video game that the two had both been interested in. The two boys talked on and on about it. They had both just started playing the game. They talked on about other things. It was so nice to catch up. Lex had been constantly surrounded by girls for so long. Joe missed him. To Joe's dismay, it was time to go. Kylie's parents had come to pick her up, and Joe and Lex walked home. Joe reached his house and gave his best friend a hug and said goodbye. Lex continued to his house. He laid in his bed looking at the ceiling. Joe felt something he hadn't in a long time. He felt happy.
