I wake up to the smell of bacon.
I remember last time I smelt bacon, when I was living at home with my mom and dad.
The sizzling noise itself is enough to make you scream inside. How I felt with Riley around. Wait. Why am I smelling bacon? I live alone.
I jump up in bed, and hear some music. I walk out of bed, and to the living room. I peek my head over the wall, and see a brown haired beauty in the kitchen working on breakfast.
"How'd you get in here!" I say, startled.
"Key under the doormat? Really?"
"Oh.." I say in defeat. "What are you making?" I ask.
"Bacon! And what kind of jam do you like on your toast?"
"Grape. So you can cook?"
"Kinda. My mom tried to teach me, but I didn't pay attention. Also the side of the box tells me how to make everything."
"Oh," I say with relief, "That's a good thing. I have no clue how to cook.." I say whilst looking down to avoid eye contact.
"Really? Well maybe one day I can teach you." He says with a happy expression.
One day.. Did this mean he hoped to see me again? In the future? Knowing how my friendships went in this life, I knew I had to cut off this connection. But how-
"Can you grab the chocolate mix from the shelf?" He says, interrupting my train of thought.
"Uh, sure"
I hand him the mix, and he whispers thanks. I go to sit down at the table, and watch him cook. How was I supposed to end things when I was so happy with him? And I knew he was happy with me. I'd hoped he was.
"So about yesterday.." I say to him, just as the bacon finished and he was putting it on my plate.
I hear a light chuckle, and see him turning around. "Yeah, about that. Sorry, I got caught up in the moment. If you don't want me to-"
"No, no. It was fine. More than fine, actually." I say, my voice getting lower as I say the last sentence.
He smirks, and walks toward the table, handing me my plate. He gets down on my eye level, with his face inches from mine. My heart is skipping beats, leaping from my chest.
"Well then. Guess it'll have to happen again." As I thought he was going to kiss me, he reached for a piece of bacon and took a big bite.
Laughing, he walked back to the kitchen to get his plate. My heart was still racing, and I sighed in defeat.
Why must he do this to me?
