  Valerie Hutchions wasn't normal. 

As a child her father worked for the military, working with atomic nuclear weapons. After a fatal accident, Valerie was exposed to radiation, which mutilated her genes and gave her the power to be able to change her appearance, to skin change. 

Hiding her abilities, her father ripped her out of school and they went on the run, bouncing from state to state. Always running away in fear people might find out what his daughter had become. Something different, something unnatural. 

Fifteen years later, in the year 1975 after the death of her father, she meets a rouge team of heroes and villains that travel through time to stop a man named Vandal Savage. Their leader, Rip Hunter convinces her that the team would benefit from her abilities, that upon his ship, she would be able to find a place where she belongs.

Her simple life in 1975 is a distant memory as she joins the team, in hopes to become a legend and to save the world. 

But while traveling through time, her life back home doesn't seem so bad when her life is thrown head first into things she can not explain, into the future where everything in strange to her and into danger with people hunting them down. 

But with danger comes love, something Valerie didn't believe in.
