Why...

Why did life have to be so confusing? Why in the hell did it have to throw curve balls that hit you smack in the face? Why did only I, of all people, get double-whammied? Why in the world did my sister have to come and say that she was going to work for the Lord of the City? In other words the Master Vampire that ruled over these parts? Or at least he ruled over the vampires that lived in these parts.

Sigh.

Let me explain.

My sister had taken up the job as the Master vampire's secretary. Her job meant she would get his business in order, tell him when he was scheduled to do this and that and so on.

But what in all of hell gave her the idea that it was a good job opportunity? Sure she gets paid like thousands of euros a month, (apparently the dude's a foreigner), but that doesn't make it a good job. It doesn't make her safe!

I sighed.

I'm still worrying even though she's had that job for a year now. But what can I say?

She's my little sister.

I check my phone for messages. I was currently on my way home after successfully getting fired from yet another job.

Don't ask.

I looked through my contacts and selected my sister.

[ Lil Allie ]

I began to text my request.

yo sis, any chance u could have lunch with me?

I hit send and began to admire the view from my minuscule apartment window. I'd been on my own for around five years now, my sister was living in better conditions than I was. My place had at least three cockroach sightings, by yours truly, every hour. And mold lined every corner of my walls.

I wasn't a happy camper.

But I was grateful to live with what I've got.

Our story went like this:

I, Leonel, and my twin sister, Allison, were born twenty four years ago by a black witch.

Now I know what you're thinking. Black witch? That must mean shes evil. But not necessarily. She grew up on the craft and wasn't a practicing witch. But still, it ran in her blood, and now in ours.

Sadly, we never knew our mother. She passed soon after giving birth to us. And so we spent life with her sister, our Aunt Margret. She taught me and my sister some of the craft. Just enough to defend ourselves if ever a crisis arrived. But my sister really took to it, she was a real natural. So my aunt furthered her studies. Which was fine, I had no desire to learn more than I already knew. But here's where it gets tricky.

While we began to learn the art of witchcraft, my Aunt began to notice something different about my magic. It wasn't just black, it was also grey and white, with red, blue, green and yellow mixed in. She also noticed that my magic came from inside me, not around me like it normally should. I didn't use nature to draw energy. After many more observations and experiments, she accidentally triggered something inside of me one night.

It was dark out, and I'd been sitting in our tiny kitchen eating dinner with my sister and my aunt. I was only twelve years old at the time. Allison and Aunt Margret were playing around with their magic a bit. I was still eating, and when I finished, I tried to join in a bit. But then my sister said that she wanted to try channeling with me.

Channeling is like combining your energy to create bigger, and stronger magic. My sister wanted to make little flashes of purple dance around the room. But I hadn't learned how to channel yet so my aunt had grabbed my hand and was about to demonstrate when I suddenly blacked out.
