C H A P T E R O N E
He was unable to move from the very spot he was in when she first entered. Surrounded by old, battered books, and dim, rustic lamps, he was starting to feel like he was in a scene from an indie movie. There seemed to be nobody other than the thirty-something year old owner of the store anywhere nearby. He desperately wanted to go over and introduce himself, but instead he stood there with his hands getting more and more sweaty, his heart pounding, and all thoughts diminishing. His eyes seemed to be going in and out of focus, the checkered wallpaper merging with her white dress, tangling itself with her hair, and swirling in her icy blue eyes.
He had never been in a situation like this. He always made sure to avoid falling down any path that could eventually lead to temptation and impurity. This was new territory and he was becoming more unsure of himself as the minutes passed by. He couldn't help but wonder how he could even begin to have a conversation with her when he could barely manage one with his best friend's step mom.
He moved himself further away, trying to get a grip on his thoughts but still able to see her. After wandering around the store looking for a place to relax, he decided on an empty space behind a shelf of worn out dictionaries. He tried to catch his breath and remind himself that he needed to chill. So focused on the debate going on in his head though, he barely noticed her walking closer to his section.
She was walking towards him, hips swaying softly and lips that looked like she was waiting to laugh. She placed herself on the other side of the bookshelf, peeking through a slot that was left open after someone grabbed a dictionary. He was completely unaware of her presence as she studied him. Finally, he looked up from under his eyelashes and caught her eye. Mustering up as much confidence as he could, he tried to hold her gaze, leading to the worlds most awkward staring contest. Staring him deep in the eyes, a small smile began to make it's way onto her face. Her perfect rosy lips were mesmerizing- everything about her was mesmerizing. He got so lost in her features that he completely forgot about their little battle until he heard her giggling quietly to herself. As she caught his eye once again, it was like whatever trance he'd allowed myself to fall into before was sucking him right back in and he was left daydreaming about a forever with a girl who's name he might not ever even know.
