Do you know how hard it is to be a black woman today?
We can't just be beautiful like everyone else.
Everyone wants to put in their 2 cents and critique.
What's wrong with our physique?
Is it because our waste isn't always so slim?
Why do our curves need a particular trim?
Even our hair creates controversy...
Because it is has oh so many varieties.
It can be curly or even straight maybe short or long.
Maybe we want to rock a fro...
Just because it makes us feel strong
And oh when we step out into the light
Our melanin pops just so right
The shades of our skin are never ending
And when we stand together the beauty is so blending
That caramel, mocha, and dark chocolate too
It's more sweeter than that morning coffee brew
Just know that beauty isn't defined by the color of skin
It still comes from deep within
But we ain't ashamed of our darker complexion
So don't you ever worry about asking that question
We hope our confidence doesn't threaten you
We just love us and you should love us to
So when we walk down the streets with our heads up high...
Don't give us that ugly mug or nasty side eye
You could never make us cry or even make us frown
Because on top of our heads is a solid gold crown
And again I say...
Do you know how hard it is to be a black woman today?
To stay strong through the looks and all the people say
We love who we are and we will never change
So go ahead sistas, and slay black woman, slay.

PoetryI don't write stories. My work is more of a poem inspired style. Just something for melanin appreciation.
