GREED
My feet clashed into the rustling leaves below, squelching noises are heard when my feet touch solid ground. My plan, to avenge my father’s death and take my rightful position for the kingdom is in full motion.
I reminisce of my life as a princess, my father and mother, my friendships. I know now with good comes bad. I think back 3 years ago, how one conversation turned out to be one of the biggest hardships I would come to face.
(3 Years Ago outside of Aeduera’s fathers’ office)
I hid outside of my father’s door, listening to him and my uncle argues.
“Arlorm, If we bring in the dark forces, we could subjugate the world!” My uncle roared.
“No Basrilis” my father spoke to my uncle, “Bringing in the dark forces will destroy our world. In three years from now when they get here, they will annihilate us. Aeduera is meant to rule the kingdom soon anyways” My father pleaded
“That child should have died with your wife, luckily I took over your position before you drove the kingdom into the ground, I am bringing them in whether you like it or not. As for Aeduera I will kill her!” I took a sharp intake of oxygen, feeling a lack of that element around me.
I slowly crept away from the room and started running when my dad, and former king of Alfheim, contacted me through our mind link, ‘Aeduera run away and don’t come back! I love you’ his voice sounded strained.
‘I love you dad’ I contacted him before a gunshot was heard and my heart broke slightly. My father was dead all because of my Uncle.
(Present Day on the outskirts of Alfheim)
My father’s best friend, Onler, and I snuck silently through the gates to my kingdom, Alfheim. We crept eerily into the distance until the castle I grew up in came into reach. We lurked into the left wing of the castle and into the crevice from when I was younger and played ‘hiding princesses and princes’, a game I now found invaluable.
Onler and I slithered like snakes into the north head of the castle to find and discover the sacred wand of 1000 wise wizards and witches. A wand so powerful it could overthrow a king and his kingdom, however it shed its magical powers for only pure, altruistic souls. Onler and I turned the corner of the hall and took a right turn, my foot stepped into the corridor for the north head, weapon chamber and a hand with; slender, muscular and wart covered fingers wormed its way to my neck, clasping the skin above my larynx.
“Princess” a goblin guard sneered with a menacing tone into my ear, “Surely you’re not here for a sort of, spellbound sceptor? Because that would mean I would have to kill you” each word dripped with venom as its hands pulled a cooling, steel blade across my chestnut hair and caramel skin. Onler started to shake with unrefined anger and pulsed forwards, attacking the burly goblin behind me and snapped his neck while he was blindsided.
“Aeduera, behind you!” Onler threw a blade at me, which I caught with ease then flipped myself around just in time to meet another 2 goblin guards of my uncles, charging towards us. I kicked the first man over his head, knocking him out cold. I grabbed the second goblin at the neck and kicked his legs out from under him, “Where is it, give it to me, NOW!” The goblin guard cowered with fear and handed the wand to me and ran off. I spun on the balls of my feet and witnessed the man that saved my life mere moments ago, drenched in his blood, oozing out of the gnash that traced from ankle to mid-thigh.
Onler gave me a look to keep going without him, and with that, I rushed to my father’s ex-office. I flung the door open and pounced on the only living creature in the room, Uncle B. He was startled and fear clouded his vision, he pried me away from his torso and scurried behind his desk, pulling out a ’22 (gun). He tackled me in a nanosecond and pointed the barrel between my eyebrows.
“I hate you!” I boomed out.
Taken aback from my tone he withdrew enough for me to activate a self-freeze on the wand for anyone who wasn’t pure. I threw the wand at his silhouette, which he caught smoothly. He paced towards me menacingly, before his figure turned rigid and froze over.
I padded my way over to the man, stopping a hairsbreadth away, whispering into his ear.
“Uncle B, This is a result of greed” I took the wand and smashed it into the ice, which shattered the corpse inside also.
Finally, I was the ruler of Alfheim.
