That next week, Callie was sitting at the kitchen table drinking a cup of coffee in the morning.
She looked at the wedding planner book she kept for herself—and all of her clients for her business received one as well—and skimmed through the day’s work. It was officially two weeks six hours and forty five minutes before the wedding had begun and she was already feeling more pressure than ever. She never knew how hard it could be to plan her own wedding.
She had several clients who had hired her to plan theirs and she had done it with success every single time…why was it so hard to plan her own to keep disasters from happening…to keep her silly fiancée in check before they tied the knot.
Speaking of fiancée…she had known he said he was going for a run this morning and then said he would stop to pick up breakfast. But that was well over two hours ago…and Callie got impatient and just made herself something to eat.
She picked up her cell phone and dialed Tony’s number. “Hey, it’s Tony, leave a message and I will do my best to get back to you…” Rolling her eyes, Callie hung up before she recorded another worried message. Callie was sure there was a legitimate reason why his phone went straight to voicemail now for the past hour.
She stood up closing her robe tighter than before and dropped her coffee mug in the sink. She went back to the table and scooped up her planner and went upstairs to change into her outfit for the day.
It was an hour later and Callie was walking down the stairs with a pair of black skinny jeans on, a floral blouse, and flats that had bows on the toes. As soon as she reached the bottom of the stairs, Tony had walked in the door.
Her mood darkened with anger instantly as she saw the dirty sweat dripping from his chin down on his shirt.
“Where have you been?” She asked, not as casual as she had planned.
“The car, babe, had blown a tire while I was driving. And my phone died, too,” he said reaching down to kiss her but she dodged him.
“Tony, you promised me breakfast and that was damn near three hours ago.” She said folding her arms and tapping her foot, annoyed
“Well, Callie, when you have a blown tire and a dead phone the last thing you’re thinking about is breakfast,” Tony said impatiently.
He walked passed her and ended up in the kitchen.
Callie bit her tongue hard to keep from saying anything irrational. “How’d you get back home,” she asked a little more calmly than she expected to sound.
Tony lifted up his shirt to scratch his chest and reached in the fridge and grabbed the carton of milk. He opened it and drank straight from the carton.
“Tony!” She exclaimed snatching the carton from his hands.
“Well, someone is grumpy this morning,” he observed staring at her like she was crazy. “Honey, I told you to let me know when you’re period comes so I can be prepared.”
At that insensitive comment, Callie threw the carton of milk at him. “You can be an asshole sometimes you know that,” she shouted and turned to leave the kitchen.
“Callie,” Tony called after her but didn’t bother to catch her.
Callie just went up to their bedroom and grabbed her purse and keys. She needed to go visit her sister, ignoring her name constantly being called.
“Callie, I’m sorry,” Tony said as she walked out the door. But, for some reason Callie knew he didn’t mean it. Lately he never meant anything…
