A Cold Beginning

I woke up on a cold floor in a freezing room with only my flannel shirt and shorts that barely came to my knees. I had goose bumps all over my body and I felt awful. My mouth was dry and my vision was blurry. That wasn't suprising though, someone probably took my glasses. I was always picked on, even though I tried to fit in as much as possible.

"Oh, you're finally awake. I thought you had died from the cold for a second there." I looked up, suprised to hear a male voice, and I was even more suprised when I saw who it was; Maxson Carter. Maxson was your typical football jockey that was really hot and really tall. He had brown hair with blonde highlights that were natural, and had incredible deep brown eyes. He was known as the Dollar Coin around the school because he was "100% perfect". I could personally name a few faults, like the friends he picks. They always tease me and he does nothing. He doesn't even join in, he just stands there and watches the people passing by. I scowl a bit as I sit up and look around. We were in the cafeteria fridge, and I remembered that I was working here to pay for the lunches I never paid for.

"I forgot your name." he said blankly. Of course you would. "Adeline." I said quietly. He nodded and leaned back onto a carton full of oranges. "Sorry that you got stuck in here, my friends decided to pull a prank on me by sticking me in here with you." I sat silently, hoping to find a way to get warmer. A blanket, a heater, anything! I started looking around frantically after I realized I couldn't feel my fingers.

Maxson must have noticed, because it didn't take long before I was wrapped up in his shirt. I stared up stunned, only to look down blushing after seeing his chest. He had abs like no other. He chuckled a bit and sat down next to me. "Don't I get a thanks?" He looked at me expectantly, but I kept my face down to avoid seeing his deep brown eyes. "Th-thanks..." I muttered. He leaned back onto his arms and sighed.

"So, are you gonna' ask if you can get a hug to keep you warm?" he asked, a bitterness in his voice. I scooted away from him as soon as he said 'hug'. He laughed and stared at me for awhile. "You're really weird, you know that?" he said. I stared at the wall next to me, keeping him out of my eyesight. I get told that only every day by your friends. Right in front of you I might add! I pulled his shirt tighter around me, only to fling it away from the immense smell of cologne emanating from it. He picked it up and put it back onto himself.

We sat in silence until he got up and slammed the doors. He hit it really hard, leaving dents where his fists were. "LET US OUT, GUYS! IT'S ALREADY PAST 10 O'CLOCK!" He slammed his fists on the door some more before he finally broke it down. He cussed under his breath and ran his hand through his brown hair. I stared at him, teeth chattering as I rushed past him. Freedom! I ran to the doors leading into the hallway and fell hard on my back. I sat there, confused for awhile.

"They're locked, Dumbo." Maxson said. He walked up to me and extended his hand. I stood up, swatting his hand away. He looked at me, but I wasn't sure how as I was too tired to focus my blurry vision on his face. I opened my mouth to say something, but instead a yawn came out and I fell foward in exhaustion. He grabbed me before I fell and sat me down, still keeping me upright with his arms. They were muscular too.

I woke up with my head pounding and my vision still blurry. Stupid dudes. I sat up, rubbing my eyes. I could tell I was in the cafeteria, but I had no idea what time it was. I heard breathing close by. I froze in place and slowly turned my head. Maxson was sleeping beside me, shirtless and holding my waist. I shrieked and ran to the other side of the room. He sat up and looked around, then slouched over after realising it was only me.

"What'd you do that for?" He asked in a deep morning voice. I stared at him, eyes wide. I pointed at him. "Why were you holding me while you were sleeping? And where's your shirt?!" I half whispered, half yelled. He sat up groggily and walked slowly towards me. I stood in place, scared that he would lean down and take my first kiss, like I had seen him do to so many girls in the hallway. I closed my eyes and waited to feel his lips on mine.

"Hey, Adie." He said. I opened my eyes to see him holding his shirt which was on my shoulder. I blushed and looked down. He walked away, taking his shirt with him. "School will be starting soon, might wanna hide before the janitor gets here to unlock the doors." Maxson said. I stood there for awhile before ducking under a table.
