Love's Too Short (Edward Elric X Reader)

Seeing him once more

I continued down the path that lead me to my home. But I did stay for at least an hour at a cafe for breakfast, before continuing on. People always think I'm a mystery. It's all because of the mask I wear. The time is now 7:30. A few of the early workers were setting up their stalls for the market. 

But of course you can get the odd few, who are always energetic on a morning when ever they are here. I was about to turn the corner when a small person with blonde hair and a red coat came crashing into me. 

Unprepared for this, I ended up falling backwards onto the floor. It took a few seconds to regain my motion.

"Sorry about that" the voice of my past was hovering above me. I looked up and with no doubt there he was, Edward Elric. He was towering over me with a hand stretched out for me to take. I grabbed his hand as he helped me up.

As I got up, I heard a big clang of metal coming closer towards us. Within seconds the younger Elric brother was with us, Alphonse Elric. 

"Brother, are you okay?, what happened?" Alphonse asked in a quick and panicked voice. 

"It's alright Al, no need to panic." Edward tried to calm him down. Alphonse ignored him as he turned towards me. 

"Are you okay?" Alphonse asked me. I nodded in response. This seemed to calm him down a bit. I checked the time on the main clock on the side building next to us. I couldn't believe it. It was 9:30. CRAP!! I was meant to meet my dad in ten minutes. I looked back at the two brothers. Of course they couldn't see my facial expression but they could sense that I needed to go.

"We'll walk with you. You're heading towards central right?" 

I nodded.

I started to move first. Later would I know that we would be seeing each other a bit more than expected.

(Time skip)

When we arrived we all walked inside. Surrounding everywhere were members of the military scurrying from one area to the other. Most carrying high piles of documents that needed to be stored away. 

I carried on walking until I ended up outside my father's office. I checked the time again. 9:45. I'm five minutes late. I am SO dead. I knew taking the job of an alchemist was deadly and life threatening but who knew Roy Mustang would be the cause of my death? 

I knocked on the door and entered. There sat in the chair was my father. "You're late." His loud voice echoed within the room. "Sorry" was all I could say. We haven't talked in a while so I had no idea what to say to him. I promised I would be home two days ago but of course someone tried to follow me so I had to go on a little detour around the area I was at, at the time to get rid of him. 

He didn't say much after that. He looked to his door. "I know you two are there so why not save us all the trouble and come in." It took less than a minute for the door to open. There standing were the two Elric brothers. Edward came in and sat down next to me. 

"Hi again" he said to me. I nodded to show I acknowledged his presence and that I wasn't being rude towards him. 

"Well it seems that you three have already been introduced. That's good saves me all the trouble, but then again this is my job." My father sighed. "Full metal, Alphonse, this is the love alchemist also known as (Y/N) Mustang. (Y/N) these are the Elric brothers Edward and Alphonse." He used his hands to gesture which one was which. I forgot to tell him that I already knew there names so I just went along with it. 

"Wait! You said her surname was Mustang. Does that mean?..." 

"Yes, (Y/N) is my daughter but we don't make her surname go public." Roy informed them.

"So then why are you telling us?" Edward asked.

"For the past few weeks strange actions have occurred throughout central. They keep attacking and robbing people, but they keep asking the same question. The question is 'Where is the Love alchemist?' We called her back in early from her previous task so that we, the military, can protect her. However, as her father I don't want anything to happen to her, I'm the only one she has left. That is why I'm  assinging you to protect my daughter." Roy ended his little speech here, making everything sink in. Then Edward spoke.

"I'm fine with doing this but why is she called the 'love' alchemist?" 

" Well when we came up with her name, it suited her. Just like with your name 'Full metal'. However, if you want to know why it suits her you're going to ask her your self." 

With all this said, we ended up leaving. By the time all the chatting took place and having breaks in between it was 21:30. We decided to go to an hotel for the night. We got one apartment with two bedrooms. I had one and Edward had the other. Alphonse just sat in the living room. 

'What a day!' I thought to myself. I took my mask off and cape and changed into my night clothing. Just as I was finished changing and sat on the bed the door opened revealing extra light. I tried to look for my mask but I realised that it was at the edge of the desk, which was the furthest away from the bed.

Edward was the one at the door. I looked up at his face in complete shock. When he saw my face his eyes widened. 

"(Yy...yy/N...nnn)" he stuttered. "I thought you disappeared when we were ten. Turns out you were found by your father." Edward couldn't keep the shock away from his voice.

"You recognise me?" I asked shyly, to which he nodded. I couldn't keep the tears in. For once I found someone who didn't react to the curse, except from my father, when he saw my face. 

Edward came closer to me and gave me a tight embrace.Even though we only actually spent one whole day together when we were little, it felt, right now, that we had knew each other for years. 

We stayed like this for what seemed like hours. 'A lot has happened today, huh' I thought to myself. I eventually grew tired. As I was too tired to also move, I ended up falling asleep in Edward's arms. I felt Edward slowly place my body on the bed as I was still half conscious. 'A lot of things may have happened today but I can't wait to see what happens tomorrow.' That was my final thought as I let drowsiness take over my tired body.
