FALL ANGELIQUE'S POV
There are so many problems in life that an individual can encounter. And it works like a hurricane, an endless hurricane throwing you unexpected problems all at once. It's inevitable, problems are inevitable. No matter how rich you are, the devil will find ways to turn you into a beggar in a matter of time. No matter how jolly and happy you are, once you've encountered the devil's wrath or God's challenge, you turn into a person you don't want to become. And it's hard, it's hard to find your old self.
"What are you doing?" Michael's voice snapped me back to reality. He carried two small boxes, his apron hanging on his neck and tied to a ribbon on his bottom back. His bleached hair hidden in a hair net, and his piercings were nowhere to be seen on his pale face.
I clapped my hands, "I was just counting how many costumers we got today! The place is filled."
"You are so happy-go-lucky it disgusts me." He said, rolling his eyes before going into the back room. He seems to be annoyed at me most of the time, but I'd rather not think about why.
"That's me, Ms. Happy-go-lucky!" I called out with my biggest fake smile. I used it all the time, It became sincere to a naive's point of view.
If only you knew.
"So, How's Sydney so far?" Poppy leaned into the counter after serving two teenagers with their 'usual'. Her long blonde hair tied neatly into a bun, Her eyelashes curled into perfection. She's so pretty.
Something you're not.
"It's pretty great so far." I smiled, leaning into the counter, copying her exact position so we could talk better. A few thuds came from the back room but we both chose to ignore it.
"And living with Mrs. Tina?" Poppy asked, resting her head on her flawless palm. Her nails painted soft pink and she's just so flawless.
"It's great too, she's nice-" I failed to finish my sentence as the door bells twinkled softly and a tall dirty blonde boy came in. He looked about my age or older, he had facial hair covering his face. He sported a pair of black skinny jeans and a plain white shirt.
"Luke! When did you arrive?" Poppy exclaimed as soon as her eyes landed on him. She stood from her leaning position and I did the same.
"Just yesterday, How're you Pop?" He asked, his lips moving fast as he spoke to Poppy and gave her a hug. She hugged him back and soon afterwards they separated. Leaving me in complete shock to who this 'Luke' guy is.
"I'm fine. Michael! Luke's here!" Poppy yelled, and as soon as the words left her lips, Michael came running out of the back room, almost tripping on the floor mat on the process.
"Luke! What are you doing here?" He asked as he gave him a hug. Michael looked so sweet and excited, at that moment I didn't see the guy who hated and had been nothing but a complete asshole to me for the past days that I've been here.
"I came to see you of course, and Aleisha will be here any minute now." The guy 'Luke' spoke as he looked on his wrist watch. "As of then, Can I get something?"
"Sure thing dude. Hey Falling, Get him something." All three pairs of eyes darted to me, and I stiffen in my position not knowing what to do.
"Michael, That's your job." Poppy said, she flicked a finger and Michael's ear before turning to me, "Get his orders Fall, Michael will do the mixing." Poppy smiled as she disappeared to accomodate other people who just got in.
Michael huffed before walking to the back door. Leaving me, and this guy 'Luke'. He walked over to my side of the counter to where the cashier machine sits.
Blue eyes stared at me, a small smile forming into his lips, "You're new? A word of advice, Michael is not a good co-worker. So, I suggest you leave before he ruins your life." He chuckled. "Just kidding."
"Oh please, He doesn't do anything bad besides of annoy me with his annoying eye rolls." My eyes widen at what I just said. Fuck.
He laughed, his eyes squinting and lines formed on his cheeks. A shallow dimple showing on his right cheek, "You're great..." He trailed off chuckling, "I'm Luke. Can you get me the best one on there?" He didn't even have to look up to the chalkboard, He's that tall.
"I haven't tasted everything yet." I mumbled to myself.
He looked down at me, and again he laughed. "Cute."
"Hey Luke, Stop playing with Fall and get your order now." Poppy said as she passed us, ballpen and a notepad in hand and her head held high.
"Okay so, Get me whatever everyone's getting Fall." He said. Blue eyes sparkling and pink lips curving into a small smile.
"Yeah sure, I'll have Poppy give it to you." I said as I went to work on his order. He nodded, before walking to the table for two. Fishing his cellphone on the process.
I did my job as the front counter and cashier. Things I've been training myself to do quickly. Things I don't want to fuck up or I'm losing my job.
Poppy came to me, punching the orders she got for she was better and faster at it than I was. She worked flawlessly, Something I don't do. She acted as if she's not on the rush, something I'm bad at. She moved through the tables handing everyone their orders including Luke. She has everything under control and calculated. She is everything I'm not.
"Poppy! Can you work in here? I just want to chat with Luke. There's not much costumers in, so you can handle it, please?" Michael pleaded, giving Poppy the puppy eyes.
Poppy nodded and just like that, Michael disappeared from the counter to sit with his buddy. Poppy giggled at Michael's excitement and leaned on the counter beside me.
"That's Luke. They grew up together, Luke, Michael and two others that I'm sure you're gonna meet this summer." Poppy smirked, "They played in a band back when we were still in high school, but after that, Luke decided to go to college in Australian National University in Canberra. He comes home when he got break but that rarely happens. That's why Michael is like an excited kitten." Poppy explained as we both looked at the two fighting over something in a phone. They look like siblings with the way they're acting towards each other. Maybe there is a soft spot inside Michael after all.
"Luke!" All of the eyes darted to a girl with blonde hair in incredibly short shorts and a floral top that shows her belly button, She ran to Luke who had his arms wide open for a hug.
She hugged him and he lifted her up.
A series of "Awwws" came from the other costumers as they admired the reunion happening infront of them.
"And that, That is Aleisha." Poppy scoffed before disappearing to the back room. I stayed put in my place as I watched Luke and Aleisha hug each other for the longest time with Michael sitting there staring intently on his phone like nothing was happening infront of him.
"I missed you so much." I heard Luke say as he smashed his lips against hers. Having a little make out that every other person in the cafe seemed to be oblivious about.
I wish I had someone like that.
You never will.
