I opened my eyes and stretched in my bed. I took off the red sheet that lay over me and lifted my head off the white pillow. I looked over to my right and saw that it was almost dawn. The sky was a light purple and the horizon a mixture of red, orange and yellow as the sun slowly rose. I grabbed my ponytail holder on my dresser and started to style my long bronze hair into a ponytail. I rubbed the cold out of my amber eyes, put on my white slippers and walked over to turn the knob of my door, still in my black tank top and shorts. I hesitated when I heard noise coming from downstairs. Mom and dad aren't awake until long after...who could that be? I heard three male voices. They spoke softly, but I could hear them still. I leaned closer to the door, taking extra care not to make a sound.

"Are the parents awake?" One man whispered urgently.

"No, they're sound asleep. Let's go to the girl's room." Another man replied.

I covered my mouth, forcing myself to hold in my gasp. I scanned my room, looking for a place to hide. There was no place I could hide in that they wouldn't be able to find me in. Crap! I just have to face them head on and see what they want with me. I backed up from the door and hid in a corner next to it. The door creaked open silently and I did my best to stop trembling. The three men walked into the room, they were all dressed in black. This is my chance!

I summoned my fire whip and trapped all the men in fire. Even though I wanted to, I made sure not to burn their skin, just keep the fire close enough so that they don't get any ideas.

"What do you want?!" I hissed at them.

"So, you're the phoenix everyone's been talking about huh? I never expected the phoenix to be a teenage girl with a temper." The tallest man began.

"Tsk...shut it. I want to burn you all up, but I'm deciding not to. Don't make me regret that decision." I brought the flames closer to them and saw them starting to sweat. The heat increased steadily as I started to lose my patience. Keep it together Cira...don't let them get under your skin.

"See? A temper...my point proven. Now, to answer your question...we want the phoenix. Legend says that whoever gets a phoenix feather, or better yet...kills the phoenix. Will have ultimate power! We want that power...and we heard that the phoenix has been rumored to live in this area. So, we checked every house in this neighborhood. This place, is our final stop. And look....we found you." The man started to chuckle to himself.

What does he mean? Me...a phoenix! I thought those were just myths..and just because I'm a fire elemental doesn't mean that I am the phoenix! They must be crazy...

"Look...I'm sorry to disappoint you. But, you see...I'm not a...'phoenix' whatever that thing is. If you promise to just leave my parents and I alone..I will let you go with no problems, and we can just pretend that this never happened." I released them from the fire whip and cocked my head towards the door. I turned around to go back to my bed and sleep.

"Well, sorry princess. But, we can't just let you go. You are the phoenix, and you're giving us one of your feathers! Or else...you can just say goodbye to your parents."

"What?! I just said that I wasn't the phoenix, and don't you dare hurt my parents. Leave. Them. Alone." I spun around to the men and saw the shortest one holding a button in his hand. They must have thought this would happen. They did something while I was still asleep...dang it!

"Your parents' room is wired with explosives. With a push of this button, kaboom! Your parents die." The shortest man said with excitement. "Since you're clearly refusing to give us what we want.." He pushed the button and explosions could be heard in my parents' room. Mom...dad...they're...I clenched my fists together and hot tears streamed from my face, turning into steam as they rolled down my cheeks. "YOU MONSTERS!" I lost control over my emotions and let my powers loose. I didn't care about controlling it anymore. Golden wings of fire emerged from my back and my eyes glowed with power. White-hot flames surrounded my body while bits of my skin turned into dark, red dragon scales. "YOU'LL PAY FOR THIS!" I glided over to them and threw lightning-fast punches and kicks at all three of them. Their skin began to burn and pieces of black clothing fell from their chests. I blasted fireballs at them and they burned up. Cooked inside of their clothing. The house was now filled with the stench of burnt flesh and the aroma of spice from my magic aura. I let my flames loose and burned down the house. Destroying everything in my path. I flew through the roof of my house and my body turned into a phoenix in mid-air. The sky was filled with blinding golden light as I soared through the sky. I didn't care where I went, as long as I was alone and no one found the phoenix...or should I say...Cira.
