N A T A L I E
Okay. Wow. College interview. Today.
As soon as my eyes opened to the sunlight that was all I could think about. College.
I got up quickly and filled the bathtub. Nothing could be more relaxing than a warm bubble bath before one of the most important days of your life.
I got dressed and put my hair up in a high pony tail. Not so much for make-up; I want to leave a good impression.
"G'morning, Mom."
"Oh, hey. Good morning Natalie." She smiled sweetly as she passed me a plate full of pancakes and a cup of cappuccino.
"You know we have to get moving in like, half an hour, right?" She asked me looking into her watch.
"Yeah, I'll just eat quickly and we can go." I stuffed my face with even more pancakes.
We got into the car and headed to the University. Of course I didn't forget my required documents. I was so anxious, but I'm sure I'll be okay. Right?
I was so lost in thought that I didn't realize we arrived. Deep breaths, Natalie.
Everything went fine. They took my papers, I payed my application fees, did my interview, the test, and now it was time for the medical form.
I walked slowly to the nurse in the front of the room. As much as I wanted to get out of here, I didn't want to go up to her.
"Hi." I tried to smile, but due to my bolting nerves it kind of came out as a grimace.
"Hi, Natalie." She smiled. "Okay so tell me, have you had any operations before?"
"No, Mam."
"Do you have any kind of illness?"
I hesitated. "N-no."
"Okay. Do you take any kind of medication?"
Oh no. What do I say? What do I do? She's going to know I'm lying. I'm so bad at lying. Can she read my mind right now?
"W-what do y-you mean b-by medication?" I stuttered like a stupid idiot.
"I mean, do you take any meds daily? Like your mom gives them to you everyday?"
"Y-yeah.."
"Okay what are they?"
"Antidepressants." I bowed my head down.
"Okay write their names down for me." She slid the paper my way.
"Are they for depression only?"
"No, for Social Anxiety Disorder, too."
"Okay, thank you Natalie." She once again smiled sweetly.
"Umm.. Would this by any chance affect my application in any way?" I asked nervously.
"Oh, no, no. Don't worry dear."
I smiled and immediately got out of there.
"Natalie! Tell me everything! Did you do well? What happened?" My Mom rushed the questions down my ears and I started blabbing about everything.
But that was when all hell broke loose.
"YOU WHAT?"
"I'm sorry, I got nervous." I bit my lip.
"Oh my God, Natalie! What have you done! You're so stupid. Why did you tell her you take meds? They're never going to accept you now. So dumb, you are!" She sobbed.
"But, Mom..."
"No but's. Let's just go home." She cut me off and got up, and me being the lost puppy I always am, followed her to the car, in which she took me back to my house, my room, my bed, and my never ending agony and sleep.
