...."Mommy please. I don't want to go." I cried, I poured my heart out feeling nothing but emptiness. I pleaded with her but she just looked at me tears of her own falling down her cheeks, her blue eyes held nothing but sadness.
"You....have... to honey, we are ready but....but your to young." She kept mumbling, walking back and forth as if she was having a internal argument with herself. I didn't understand why i needed to leave, I didn't even want to leave. I had friends here, school was here and my parents I couldn't leave without them.
"Mommy i don't understand?" I tried speaking to her but she kept rocking Lilly's body back and forth. Whipping my eyes I carried on packing, I knew if I didn't do as she told I'd be in trouble, but I still didn't understand why I had to leave.
"Honey." She kneeled in front of me her brown her a tangled mess, she gave me a swift kiss on my forehead. "You don't have to understand but you need to go. You and Lilly have to live your still young but you'll understand soon why we are did this." I nodded trying not to cry anymore. I packed all my stuff like a good little boy and waited down stair at the door.
Mommy came down with Lilly's clothes and much more. She put the rest of the luggage near the door, we had eight bags with us. The was a hooting sound outside and with that me and mom went out. She held my hand close as we walked towards daddy and a man in a soldier's uniform.
"It's time Elizabeth." He spoke tears on his eyes. He looked as pale and sick but I tried giving Him a small smile. Mommy said me and Lilly will come back after a few month's when the storm's over.
"I know, it's just hard." She held my hand tighter. I tried holding back tears of my own as I gave mom a tight squeeze back.
"It's ok mommy I'll miss you but, don't worry in a few months we'll be back." I gave her a small smile which made her cry even more.
"Yeah...I'll see you soon ok." She spoke it was bearly a whisper but I heard it. I looked at he with only love and went back to daddy who was struggling to keep it together.
"Dont worry daddy, I'll see you too and then well go fishing like you promised." He bend down and hugged me tight giving me a kiss on my forehead.
"Yeah big guy. As soon as the storm's over we'll go fishing." I nodded feeling slightly happy.
"Just make sure you take care of Lilly for me ok." I nodded and gave him a small peck on the cheek. He puts me down and ruffles my hair, before going and packing our luggage in the boot of the SUV. Mommy opens the door while I enter before she gives Lilly to me. I make sure to be seated correctly not wanting to hurt my little sister.
"Take good care of her ok." She smiles before giving me a kiss on the cheek.
"I will I promise." She smiles before closing the door. When the car starts pulling away mommy falls to the ground screaming and crying while daddy holds her close to her.
"Why's mommy crying that much, it's not like we won't see them again." I asked the man with black hair whose driving the car.
He doesn't answer he just looks at me with eyes filled with pity. I didn't understand why everyone was acting like this. I know it's sad that were leaving but it's not like its the end of the world.
We drove for a while, until we stopped at huge holographic signs near a gate, with a huge sign written NASA on it. It opened and we got in. The earthquakes where getting harsher and harsher and I had a bad feeling in my gut that I would be gone longer than a few monthes.
We pulled up and giant ship that wrote ALEXIS in italics came to view. I couldn't stop my envious smile. I've always wanted to be in a spaceship and now it's coming true, but why would I need a spaceship if I'll be gone for a few monthes.
Then It dawned on me, why would I need a spaceship and why the news had a countdown timer. I held Lilly tight trying to breath as I saw rows and rows of children and young adults lining to enter the line of ships waiting. They all had grim faces and sad expressions.
"I'm not going for a few months arnt I." I looked at the black haired man hoping he'd tell me I was wrong, but when he nodded my whole world came crashing down. I wasn't going to grandma's I was leaving the planet.
Earth is dying, the news weren't lying when I watched them in private. Mommy and daddy forbade me from watching the news now I knew why. I was naive to think that I'd be able to see my mom and dad, while they knew themselves that they wouldn't see me again.
"Earths dying isn't it?" I asked the obvious. He nodded while he parked the car. I couldn't cry anymore, the tears didn't want to come out. I'm only 10 years old I didn't understand what was happening, all I felt was a deep sadness in my chest and felt sorrow for the three month old, who will never get the chance to meet her parents.
The light in my eyes dimmed and i felt nothing but numbness. The man looked at me and sighed. "Your one strong kid." He spoke softly before taking our bags to the ship. I followed the cue infornt of me as we entered. I would have loved to explore it, but right now I just wanted to go somewhere quite and be alone.
I didn't even have time to look at the insides properly I just kept my eyes on Lilly as they became blurry.
"Children under the ages of 18 will be assigned guardians so follow the adults in front to your rooms. We'll be evacuating soon." A loud voice boomed in the ship. A women with blond hair came towards me. She tried smilling but I couldn't even look at her.
"Let me take her for you." She spoke. I took a step back and held Lilly tighter and gave the lady a look which had her a bit shocked.
"Ok I guess not." She ran her hand through her strawberry blond hair. "I'm Vanessa and I'm your guardian. So I guess you should follow me to your room Christian." She turned and walked a couple of halls and through some doors to a small room.
It had double beds and a crib with all our luggage near the door. It had everything essential to sleeping it earn had closest and an in built bathroom.
"This will be our room until we reach our destination ok so make yourself comfortable." She spoke her voice sweet but I really didn't care. I walked past her and straight to the window with Lilly still fast asleep in my arm's. I set on the bench and let the tears stream down my face.
Mommy and daddy lied to me they lied. I kept reciting it. The ship shook a bit.
"Can everyone go to thier assigned rooms we are ready for lift off." The voice spoke again. Making Vanessa sit down in the chair behind us as she read a book. With a bit of shaking and roaring sounds the ship was in the air flying above the clouds till we were in nothing but darkness with only the earth looking as beautiful as she could be.
That's when I saw them the cracks on her, they were red and the clouds where dark, black even. Mommy and daddy. I inwardly cried as thier faces flashed in my mind. Then it happened what I feared the most the earth cracked and exploded. The ship shook with its explosion. The all white room now had glowing red warning lights.
I stared out side shaking from my sobs as I saw my once home is now rubble. I felt hands on my shoulders as Vanessa looked out the window and cried her self. Then the rubble looked like small lights as the ship speed away and it felt like I enterd a vortex. The were colours on the window but I paid no attention as I cried more. Not making a sound I silently cried for my mother and all the parents the children lost.
We are now all orphans. What am I now, what can I do? I'm only 10 and now I'm parent less. I cried more until Lilly's crying made me look at her then a small glimmer of hope lite in my heart.
I'll protect you Lilly no matter what. I kissed her forehead and looked at the window feeling nothing but emptiness.
