Dr. Dumb-man was working on his latest invention—
"It's EGGMAN! You KNOW it's Eggman!"

Anyway, 'Eggman' was working on his latest invention, Shard-Bot. Eggman heard about a tournament that Blue was hosting later that month, and wanted to enter his new invention in it to beat Blue. Shard-Bot has the capability to shoot glass spines. AND he could regenerate.
As Eggman did the finishing touches on his new invention, it got up and started walking.
"You know your purpose." Said Eggman. "Destroy Blue and his friend!"
