"Just turn it off, okay?” Her finger jabbed at the power button, and a sickening quiet filled the car.
Heavy breathing.
Feet tapping off the rush of alcohol and a few snorts.

Mandy’s eyes flicked over to look at me, and, behind mascara-induced lashes, I saw nothing but loneliness inside, a hope for something beyond her control, a child roaming her soul.
“Can you just be quiet for once, X? Because sometimes in life, silence can fix everything.”
