The full moon was tonight, and I wasn't looking forward to it. I looked up at my calendar. I sighed and looked at today's square. The countdown to the full moon was over.
I stood up and looked out of the window. There was a couple running side by side. Taxis were honking. People were heading to work. I took a deep breath and choked on the smog. I smiled; everything was good. I glanced down at my watch my mom got me. The face said it was 8:00. I swore. I was late for school. I undressed, and I quickly snapped the clasps of my bra. I pulled on a white tank top and then my leather jacket. I searched through my pile of jeans for some black skinny jeans. I finally came across them and pulled them on.
I ran up the stairs to the roof. I took a running start toward the edge of the building to jump from this one to the apartment building. I launched myself onto the roof of the apartment building and headed to my high school.
That's the good thing about having vampire genes in me. I have amazing strength, sight, smell, hearing, and speed. Well, I would have to say that my werewolf genes would also help but not as much. And my werewolf genes wouldn't make me thirsty. I'm not constantly thirsty since I do have other genes in me. But I drink blood when I can. It is the most filling.
My school was a normal high school. A thousand kids bustling in the cafeteria and gym. I was late so I don't see that. The hallways were nearly empty except for the occasional person needing to do something.
The first period bell rang. I had five minutes. The hallways quickly became full with guys that had football, soccer, or baseball. I caught whiffs of each of their blood and natural body scent that mostly was covered with Abercrombie or Aeropostale or Axe. Then I caught one of my best friends scent. Zane understood the pain I was going through. He was part werewolf part vampire part human, also. Of course, he doesn't go through the same pain I do because I was female. I looked around for his black hair and blue eyes. I finally found him on the other side of the hall. The first period tardy bell rang. I walked up to him. He was asleep leaning up against the wall. I caught a few things from his dream. IT was about a baby with the sun and the moon dancing over it.
When I got over to where he was, I started to wonder about his habits of sleeping at school. "Zane!" I said in his ear." Tonight's the full moon, are you coming over?"
"Don't I always?" he said with his eyes still closed.
"No, sometimes you go out and run." I told him.
"I like to stretch my legs." he said looking up at me.
"You could do that any other night!" I said quickly.
"You know I'm not as privileged as you. I can't live alone. I have to live my adopted parents who don't even know about me." Zane said standing.
"Zane, I was kidding. I know all about your family." I said chuckling.
I heard the principal turn the corner coming toward us. Mr. Panel was a 42 year old guy who could always pass for a gay person. Never angry, never depressed, never anything. Always happy. He was coming toward us.
"Well what do we have here?" he asked."A bit of teen love. Go on keep talking."
"Mr. Panel. How are you?" I asked smiling.
"Do we really have to smile?" he asked. "I know the whole goth thing is in right now, and changing your hair color every week is one thing you do. But you don't have to smile if you don't want to."
I peeked at Zane from the corner of my eye. He was smirking.
"Good morning, Mr. Panel." Zane said.
