Chapter 13

At first, it was a sweet kiss, one that sent my heart pounding in my chest and butterflies erupt in my stomach.  But then after a few moments, it turned into the kiss that I’d been longing for, one that left me wanting more.  Way more.

“Are you okay?” Kier asked when he pulled back a few long moments and rested his forehead against mine.  His voice was husky and sent shivers down my spine.  “I saw blood.”

I closed my eyes, tightening my hold on him.  “I’m fine,” I said.  “Just a graze.  We’ll clean it, bandage it, and I’ll be perfect again.”

“You’re always perfect,” he said, leaning toward my lips again.

I snorted, which turned into a full on laugh.  “Is your sappy self coming out now?” I asked.  “I’ll say it’s a complete turnaround from your protective self.”

He pressed his lips to mine again and I could feel him smiling.  “Yeah, well, there are many sides to this amazingly awesome guy who’s enjoying kissing you right now,” he said.

I laughed again.  “And now you can add overconfident to that list,” I said.

We pulled apart and settle back into our seats, both grinning like idiots.  This is what this guy turned me into.  An idiot.

“So are we ready to go?” Kier asked.

I looked in the rearview mirror where I could see Roman and Zyon’s car being towed off the raceway.

“Yeah, let’s go,” I said.

Kier put on his glasses so he could see the alternate course that we’d be going on to checkpoint three.  And while he drove, I cleaned and bandaged my arm.

It was only about twenty minutes later when we saw the lights for the building.  The sun had gone down behind the clouds so it was pitch black except for them.

“So do you want to take the helicopter?” I asked, looking over at Kier.

“Sure,” Kier said.  “I think that’s the only one that we both haven’t taken yet.”

He slowed to a stop into the garage, put it in park, and turned off the engine.  We both got out and let our seats down so we could get all of our stuff from the back.  Walking out of the garage and out to where the helicopter was at, I looked up at Kier.

“I’m flying,” I said before he could.

He looked down at me and started shaking his head.  “No, you’re not,” he said.

“If you don’t let me, Kier, I’m leaving your ass here,” I said, crossing my arms over my chest as I turned toward him.  “You drove all day.  You need some rest.”

“I’m fine,” he said, walking toward the back door of the helicopter to open it.  “We’re going to be told to land her in the next hour or so anyway.”

I sighed and went over to put my stuff in the back.  “I’ll make you a deal then,” I said, turning back to him.  “You get to fly until we have to land and you can fly for however long you want to tomorrow after I fly for a little while…”

“Okay,” he said.

“Nope, not done yet,” I said, smiling shyly.  “To make it a deal, you have to talk to me until I fall asleep.”

Kier just rolled his eyes.  “I do that anyway,” he said.

I shrugged, looking down at the wet concrete.  “I know, but this time I get to be right beside you.”
