***********
We went to a diner near the hotel we were staying. We sat on the table closed to the counter. After minutes of waiting, our food arrived. My tummy is already asking for it. I am really starving.
"I think we should start looking for your apartment. We can't stand to stay in the hotel anymore cause' it's too expensive. I also need to go back to Brooklyn within this week cause' I still have work to do." My mom uttered.
"Yeah I was thinking about that too. I'll just text Alex later. Maybe he can help us." I wiped the sauce in my mouth.
"Alex seems to be a good guy." She said.
"Yeah I think so too." I smiled. My phone vibrated and I was shocked to see a message from Hailee.
"Hey, Emma. I know you're still mad about what happened but I just want you to know that I'm sincerely sorry. I didn't mean any of that to happen. You're my bestfriend and I love you Emma. You're like a sister to me. I know I do not deserve your forgiveness but I am still hoping that you'll forgive me.
P.S, James and I broked up yesterday. He told me that he still loves you and we both realize that we made a very big mistake. We messed up big time and we're very sorry, Emma. Hailee xoxo"
I didn't know what to say. I was caught off guard by her message. I know she did a terrible thing to me but she is still my friend. My bestfriend. And even though she hurt me, I'm not that evil. Just like what I had said to Drew earlier, I don't hold grudges. Also, I think I'm okay now. Well it's not that easy though knowing that James, Hailee and I made a lot of memories together. They broke my heart and my trust. But going in to New Jersey was really good choice cause it made me realize a lot of things. Things that will help me live a better life. I have a big future ahead of me and I need to focus on that.
"It's okay, Hailee." I responded.
I thought about telling this to my mom but I decided to keep it. I don't want to messed this lovely dinner with her. Minutes later, we finished eating. We both went outside and just when I was about to enter the hotel, I saw Drew walking alone.
"Hey mom, I forgot to buy some wet tissue. I just need to go to the convenience store for a bit. I'll be back in a minute." I lied. 'Why am I even lying? Gosh Emma' I thought to myself.
"Oh. Okay." My mom went inside and I jog to catch up Drew.
"Hey, Drew!" I pant.
"Hey Emma. Why are you panting?" He stopped walking.
"I saw you walking alone so I jog to catch you up." I replied, still panting.
"Do you really have to do that?" He giggled.
"I think so." I laugh.
"So what are you doing here in this very night? It is already late you know." He asked with worried eyes. Wait. Why is he worried? It's very unusual for someone as rude as him.
"Oh I am staying in Rodeway Inn. For now." I replied.
"So you're not from here?" He raised his eyebrows.
"Not really. I'm from Brooklyn." I smiled.
"New York huh. So why go to New Jersey? There are a lot of great schools in New York." He asked.
"I happened to passed the scholarship of NJ City University and I don't want to throw the opportunity away so yeah, that's it." I responded. "And I was just wondering, why are you walking? I mean, you have a car right?" I added. 'Yeah, the car that almost hit you right?' My subconscious is reminding me and I shove her away.
"Oh the car that almost hit you the other day?" He laugh. " Yeah I have. I just feel like walking today." He added.
"I'd never thought you'd still remember that. You still owe me an apology, though." I chuckled with a smirk.
"I'm sorry, my lady." He bowed while kneeling his right leg.
"Yeah you're forgiven." I laugh as he stood up. I wasn't wrong. He have his good side.
"Since we got on a rough start, I think it's best if we should introduce ourselves again." He beamed.
"Sounds good though." I giggled. I extend my arms and opened my palms to shake with his hands. "Hi. I'm Emma Smith." I smiled.
"Drew Payne." He shaked his hands with mine. "Nice meeting you, Emma." He added.
"I'd never thought you were good at this." I chuckled.
"Never judge a book by it's cover." He laugh. "So friends?" He grin.
"Friends." I smiled back.
