5. surprise

Nathaniel's POV

The invasion alarm goes off and my adrenaline starts pumping.

The first thought i had was to get Anna to safety. But she was nowhere to be found.

She has been making me feel all sorts of emotions i never ever feel just in the one day of getting to know her, panic being one of them right now.

I know this attack was orchestrated by the Hunters.

Hunters are made up of non-bloomers that hate us, those who can shift. Those that were gifted with strength, power, speed.

They feel unjust. They feel overpowered. They fear.

It was a bold move to aim for my pack. I have been hearing news spread that they have taken down multiple small packs over the country. Im sure that must have built up their confidence.

There was also news that they recruited non-bloomers from the packs they took down, adding to their numbers.

But my pack is prepared. Being the most feared pack came enemies but also alliances. Smaller packs want protection, bigger packs want to take over.

But they never did get the chance to conquer me.

This attack did take us by surprise, but all that training my pack goes through is not just for show.

Within a short period of time, all the warriors, female or male, were already in battle, while the rest of the women and children were brought to safety.

One thing i least expect was the advancements in their weapons.

As shots were fired, i watched as my warriors got weaker.

Wolfsbane filled the air as smoke bombs were thrown. I look around as my warriors fought hard, despite being affected by the wolfsbane.

But that wasn't the worst.

As more of the hunters started going down, my warriors did too.

I sprung into action, ripping their heads off one by one.

But one of them caught me off guard, shooting me in my abdomen. Those bullets didn't faze me before, but this time they did.

I felt silver start leaking from the bullet and into my wound while my body desperately tried to heal itself.

With silver in my system, it slowed me down drastically as my vision blurred.

I tried to fight it, but more blows came as i felt a knife pierce my skin.

Falling backward, my world was spinning as the leader of the Hunters comes up to me, showing me the blood-stained knife that just pierced through me.

"Wolfsbane and silver. Deadly combination to bring down even an Alpha."

I growl, not wanting to submit even when i'm possibly dying.

Just as he was about to sink that knife deep into my heart, a black figure takes down, tearing his head off with its teeth.

I turn to see a large black wolf, fur a beautiful black, eyes glaring red. That was when i caught a whiff of its scent.

Anna.

I watched as she swiftly takes down each hunter, instantly killing them.

Wasn't she a non-bloomer? I couldn't smell her wolf. How was this possible?

I felt myself slowly slipping away, but i made out through my blurry vision that we won the fight, thanks to Anna.

I fought hard to stay awake, wanting to see Anna in her wolf form. How beautifully she moved, how quick she was and how strong.
