"So, it was your own brother?" Steve recounted as you two walked through Central Park, ice creams in hand.

"He used the last of his power to make me safe forever. He died just a bit after, so that's when I decided to help good people. To repay a debt."

"And because you're good too." You rolled your eyes, giving your cool treat a supple lick.

"You could say that." He grabbed your hand, stopping you and turning you towards him. His eyes betrayed the kindness he felt.

"You are good. There's no doubt about it. Don't you ever wonder why you were born with the power to heal people?"

"Nope. I just roll with it." He laughed and let go of your hand, which made the smile on your face a tad less bright. It had only been a month since that fateful day that he had saved you, but you knew in your heart that you loved this man. Every fiber of your being longed to be with him, to comfort him, to fight for him. To love him.

Your phone buzzed, and you pulled it out. After a month, you had only a few numbers. Natasha, Tony, Bruce, Clint, and of course Steve.

Want to get some food? I know for a fact that the New York shawarma will make you feel like heaven.

~Tony

You smiled and tucked your phone away, but not before Steve read the message.

"Is Tony asking you out on a date?" He asked , jokingly suspicious. You snickered.

"Tony and me? Ew. There are so many better options."

    "Like who?"

"You." You answered unthinkingly. 'Oh crap' you thought to yourself, as Steve slowed to a standstill. You turned to face him, forcing a pained smile onto your red face.

"I didn't mean to say that out loud." He shook his head slowly, and you quickly grabbed his hands in yours. "I'm so sorry! I don't want that to ruin-"

"I've been in love with you since that day in the hospital, Y/N." He said quietly. Your jaw dropped, and your chest compacted. Heartbeats quicken until they pound like tribal drums.

"You're just so neat and gentle and good that---well, I--fell in love. You're the best thing to happen to me."

"I thought that you thought of me as a sister or teammate, I never-" he interrupted you, emotions pouring out that he'd kept hidden this whole time.

"And I thought that you thought of me just as a mission. I-"

    "I love you Steve."

"I love you too Y/N." He pulled you towards him in one strong motion, an arm going around your waist and the other hand to the back of your head. You wrapped yours around him as well, reveling in the feeling of him being so close to you. You looking up into his baby blue eyes and grinned.

"I'm going to kiss you now." You said, and that you did. You kissed the man who saved you, and the man you saved kissed back.
