"Smoking; didn't think you'd be the type, Kumar."
I ignored him and raised the cigarette to my coffee coloured lips, blowing the smoke at his face making him cough.
"Polaris!" He exclaimed, coughing loudly.
A small smirk grew on my lips as I looked at Regulas Black properly. He hadn't grown over summer, in reality he looked like he may have shrunk. His hair, a vivid green colour, made me wince - I've never understood why he likes his metamorphmagus powers so much.
"You were asking for it, Black," I shrugged, offering him a cig.
He looked at me as if I was crazy, before declining and crossing his arms grumpily. We then heard the compartment door open as loud heels clomped into the scene.
"You guys fighting already?" The voice of Bellatrix Black laughed, slightly psychotically.
"Bella," I acknowledged, looking over at her and nodding.
She tossed her dark curls over her shoulder and took her jacket off, revealing a nice necklace resting on her collar bone. It had a snake coiled up as the charm, my hands twitched as I stopped myself from grabbing it and keeping it for myself.
"Nice necklace Bella. Where'd you get it, a secret admirer?" Reg asked her jokingly.
Her pale skin flushed a dark pink as she sat down opposite him. But before she could reply, two more people entered the compartment.
"Rodolphus Lestrange, age eighteen and is now in an arranged marriage with Bella," Our older friend Severus informed us in his usual, monotone voice.
She furrowed her eyebrows at him angrily.
"Careful now, Bella - you'll get wrinkles if you frown too much," I cooed to her with a teasing tone.
"I don't think you should have said that," Lucius spoke up, grabbing a cigarette from my pocket and lighting it with his wand before putting it in the corner of his mouth.
I raised an eyebrow at his actions, not knowing of him ever having a puff before. But, he took a deep inhalation from it and didn't even splutter.
"I'm impressed Luc, you been practicing over the summer?" I asked, placing my cigarette in between my teeth.
"You could say that," he winked.
My cigarette turned to ash in my mouth suddenly. I gagged and spat it out onto the floor, before looking up to see Bella holding her wand up with a grin on her face.
"BELLA!" I shrieked, before coughing some more.
She smiled innocently at me.
"Are you alright Pol?" Regulas asked me, putting a hand on my shoulder.
"Fine," I mumbled, shrugging him off.
Two hours of banter and snide remarks later and we had all changed into our school robes and had made our way off the train. Not once had we mentioned what happened the last time we saw eachother. We were branded, I don't want to speak of it.
"I created a new spell," Severus whispered to me as we let ourselves hang behind our group of friends.
"Again? Sev you know they don't work," I laughed at him.
He frowned and looked hurt.
"Oh come on Sev, you don't actually believe you have the ability to make up spells - get over yourself man," I scoffed at him, the loser.
"I just...I thought you'd have more faith in me," Sev muttered.
"I'm sorry Sev, really I am. Just, I don't want you to get your hopes up," I mockingly put a hand on his shoulder before walking ahead.
"Ten galleons!" I heard him call.
"What?" I asked, raising a dark eyebrow.
"I bet you ten galleons that I can create an impressive spell by Christmas."
"You're on," I smirked, "but you're never gonna do it."
Suddenly, a group of Ravenclaws walked past us as we hurried back to join our friends who were now nearing the carriages. The Ravenclaws started to yell rowdy and racist remarks at us...mainly me. I mean, I'm used to it so whatever. Those suckers will get it when I leave school, I'll become the best fucking death eater they've ever seen and then I'll wipe those cruel smirks off their faces and into their graves. Ha.
"I don't know why people like you are even allowed here, you nig-"
Whoever was speaking was immediately cut off by Lucius sending a hex their way, making them immobilised. He didn't look at the person, or say a word either. We just all kept on walking, me flicking my black hair back in the Ravenclaws direction as the rest of them tried to help their friend up.
We stepped onto a carriage, all of us flinching slightly as we noticed that we could all now see the thestral pulling it. After being branded with the dark mark, we each had to prove our loyalty to the dark lord...I'm sure you can interpret how we were to do that.
I sat next to Regulas who wrapped his arm around my shoulder. For once I didn't push him away, I was too annoyed with the Ravenclaws - maybe even a little upset.
I shuffled closer to him as he rubbed his hand up and down on my arm comfortingly and we both sighed, this year was gonna be a hard one.
"Oi Reg, finally got yourself a girlfriend?!" Someone from the carriage behind us yelled.
We all looked back and saw Regulas' brother and his irritating Gryffindor friends. My friends and I simply scowled at them before turning around to ignore them. Like all at the same time. It was pretty cool.
I leaned my head on his shoulder, just to spite the Gryffindors. I shut my green-blue eyes and blocked out their taunting. My breathing had become slower and I felt myself sinking into sleep.
"Pol, Polaris!" I felt someone gently shaking me, "wake up!"
I opened my eyes and squeakily yawned. Stepping off the carriage, I was still waking up so I nearly fell over.
"What happened with the Gryffinwhores?" I mumbled to Reg who had wrapped and arm round my waist to keep my from tripping.
"The usual: we were arguing until Bella got mad and then-"
"She hexed them?" I finished.
"Yeah," He laughed quietly.
We walked on in a silence, observing the other students (who were running from our group). Lots of people in our school find us scary, when you get to know us you'll see why.
