Little did Michael and Taylor know, but I had listened to their whole conversation. I was leaning on the metal baseboard listening to them talk about my whole life. It was weird listening to my life through third person.

I looked around in the room Taylor had led me to. It was mostly just a plain beige color with a thin metal strip lining all sides of the floor.

I leaned up against the wall for support. This day was strange.

For some reason whenever I touched metal I could hear things on the other side of the wall. Such as whole conversations. I also seemed to catch things on fire somehow.

I didn't know if I was the only person in the world could do this or anything, until today. I somehow found out that everyone in this house had powers, somehow.

I was scared to try to use my powers, even though I hadn't really tried yet, because of what happened to my parents.

It also seemed that my powers were that I could sense other people with powers and identify them. This was all so strange and new to me. It was scary not knowing how to control my powers or even what I could do.

When I was leaning back, onto the metal piece lining the floor, I could hear their entire conversation downstairs. When I got up, I couldn't hear anything except for my ragged breathing from anxiety.

When Taylor finally said that he was my brother, this finally felt real. I mean, what I had told her, at least through my mind.

I was adopted. My adoptive parents had told me that when I was ten years old. They had said that the doctors had thought that I was dead; my biological mom even thought so too. Then I was put into the orphanage for only about a month, when they had chosen me as their daughter. And I had failed them, because of the fire.

I was thinking about how Michael would react. I bet his mom never told him that he had a sister, me, because she thought I was dead and didn't want to deal with the grief of the situation.

Whenever I got too nervous, excited, mad, or anything else too big, things tended to catch fire. I was really trying to keep it together for the sake of my newly found friends.

All was going good until I looked down at where my hands had been; there was a small fire curling up the wall, a couple of inches away from where they just were.

Oh no, I thought, I can't let this happen again. I yelped and jumped up to go to the door. The fire was already there. I screamed for help. I couldn't let it kill those innocent teenagers. I didn't care so much for myself as I did them. I had screamed for their safety, not mine.

The boy named Zeus, which I had learned earlier, slammed open the door, with a fire extinguisher in hand. He started spraying like crazy, trying to get the fire out. When he had finally got it out, everybody else was gathered outside of my door.

Zeus started screaming at me, "Why'd you start a fire! You idiot! You're an Elgen! Get out!"

I didn't know what an 'Elgen' was, but it sounded pretty bad. I was about to burst into tears, as I was heading down the stairs towards the front door.

Taylor came running at me. "No, you don't have to go! He was just being mean." She shot Zeus a look of warning.

"Taylor, I know that you know my story. I would stay. I really would. It's just that I don't know what's wrong with me and I really don't want the same thing to happen to you guys, as it did with my parents. I'm sorry. Really. Bye, everyone." I looked back and managed a small smile. I waved and continued heading towards the door.

A small part of me protested from this act. But I didn't want them getting hurt. It wouldn't have been worth it. Not even. Despite their protests, I opened up the door and walked straight out.

Earlier, I had just somehow known what Taylor was capable of. I don't know how, I just did. She would tell the others what I could do. They would understand. I started down the sidewalk.

Little did I know what lay ahead.
