Zoe's P.O.V
I unlock the car and step into the drivers side, flinging my handbag onto the passenger's seat. Caspar's such a great guy and sometimes I just wish I had realised it sooner. Then maybe things would be different.
I was just about to switch the engine on when I heard shuffling behind me. My heart began pounding in my chest as I slowly turned my head to face the seats behind me to find a slowly rising Jack Harries.
''Hey'' He mumbles to me, rubbing his eyes. I calm down a bit and greet him back, nervously. Once he's more awake, he's starts talking again.
''Why didn't you tell me?'' He questions me.
I swear I could've gotten sick right then in the car. I felt my throat block up and I couldn't speak for a good few seconds. My heart started up again to the point where I was almost positive my chest was moving because of it. I tried to get my breathing steady again before I got the courage to speak again.
''Jack... I'm so sorry. It just happened, I was really drunk I never meant to cheat on you. I would never want to hurt you...ever'' I blurt out all at once. I can hear my heart drumming in my ears now as I watch the expression on Jack's face change. I can nearly feel his eyes boaring into mine as they fill with sadness and hurt.
''...what?'' He says, very quietly and I can feel my heart breaking.
''Jack-''
''I was going to ask you why you didn't tell me you were staying over at Sam's...''
My breath catches in my throat and my eyes go blurry. What have I just done. I see tears brim in Jack's eyes as his eyebrows lower into a frown.
''...You cheated on me?'' He asks, looking like I'd just slapped him across the face. I shut my eyes and let the tears spill down my cheeks, silently. I find myself nodding slightly because I can't bare to lie to him anymore. Jack doesn't deserve this.
My head turns to face the passenger's seat and I let out a few quiet sobs as the tears hit the gear stick below me. Once I look back at Jack, he's looking through the windscreen behind me. He looks so innocent and confused, like he doesn't understand why I would do that to him. Like he doesn't know what he did wrong. And it kills me. Because he did nothing wrong, he did everything right.
''Who...'' He finally speaks after minutes of uncomfortable silence. ''Who was it...'' I watch his face as he closes his eyes. I was hoping he wouldn't ask that question but why wouldn't he. Of course he'd want to know, it was stupid of me to think otherwise.
It was almost as if he was silently praying it wasn't anybody he knew or cared about. I waited about half a minute, staring at the floor, before saying anything.
