+ Christina's POV +
---
"Chris! Get up! We are going to be late!"
My best friend, Marie, screams through my phone. I, sadly, granted her free access to my phone calls- so every time she calls; it automatically answers.
"Bloody hell, Mar, can you not leave me alone?" I grumble into my pillow, knowing fully well that she can hear me clearly.
"Ugh- you are so lazy!" She complains.
"And you think I don't already know this?" I remark.
"Whatever- just get up!"
"Eh. Pick me up at 8." I murmur, before hanging up. I have 45 minutes- that should be plenty. Gosh, how rude of me- let me explain myself.
My name is Christina Parker, I am eighteen and I'm in my senior year- year 12- of high school.
I have long dark brown hair- light brown in the sun- and light green eyes. They're pretty dull in my opinion- but Marie says 'they're the prettiest gems in the whole entire ocean'.
Oh, B-S.
I stand from my spot on the bed- in my traditional bra and underwear. I can't wear anything else while sleeping- I get way too sweaty. I walk to my closet and pull out some jeans, a crop top, and a kimono. Great lazy-day outfit, in my opinion.
I lace up my combat boots and throw my hair in a loose pony-tail. Geez, why do I feel like something big is happening today? I swear if Jackson breaks up with me-
"Christina!? Marie is here!" My Aunt Gem shouts down the hall of our small town-home.
"Coming!" I call back, before swinging my backpack onto my shoulder and grabbing my phone off the charger. I slip my phone in my back pocket and jog down the hall, to see my aunt sitting at the island.
"Bye Aunt Gem, love you." I say quickly, kissing her cheek and grabbing an apple before running out the mahogany door. I jog down the driveway and hop inside Marie's SUV.
"Let's go, let's go! We are going to be late!" I rush, giggling slightly.
"Yada, yada, I've heard this more than I'd like to- now shut up." She mumbles under her breath, making me laugh.
She puts the car in 'drive' and starts off down the hill to our school.
The feeling pushes it's way back into my stomach, making me linger in thought. What's going on today? Do we have something big in school?
What if Jackson breaks up with me for someone else? I mean we have been having issues and fighting a lot lately but still. It would still hurt to know he had his eyes on someone else while he was with me.
Whatever, I'm fabulous- why would he break up with me?
"Hello? Chrissy! Christina I swear! Cmon'!"
I blink twice before turning my head slightly to see Marie waving her polished fingernails in my face.
"Um," I catch her hand, "I'm coming."
I let go of her hand and she stands impatiently while I clamper out of the large vehicle. I grab my bag and pull my phone out of my pocket, holding it in my hand.
"Chris, I swear," Marie sighs, linking arms with me, "you are the only person I know that cannot let go of their phone."
"This is my entertainment, communication, knowledge, and personality- all in one hunk of metal-- of course I'm going to clutch onto it." I retort, snorting a bit.
"Sexy." She remarks sarcastically, rolling her eyes at my pig-like act.
"Whatever, Mar, you're just jealous." I smirk, hearing her huff in annoyance.
"Sure." She mumbles.
We keep walking and giggling while conversing, all the way to first period. We sit in the back and joke around until Ms. Conrad comes in, wearing a tight pencil skirt and a button up white shirt. Her hair is pulled into a right bun- as usual- and she has her glasses placed delicately on the bridge of her nose.
"Class, simmer down." She calls, "I need to take roll."
We all continue to murmur quietly to ourselves while she begins to list off the names of the various students around me.
"Kelly,"
"Here."
"Joseph,"
"Here."
"Marie,"
"Here."
"Logan,"
"Absent." Numerous students call out in reply.
"Christina,"
"Here."
She continues to call down the many names, that is until the office called down from the large speakers throughout the school, and my principal- Mr. Janson's voice echoes.
"Dear students and teachers, there has been an outbreak of connubialism much like the zombie disease. Please exit the building and get somewhere safe as soon as possible! This is not a drill! I repeat: this is not a drill!"
As if on instant, everyone begins scrambling around. I automatically grab Marie's arm and run out. I knew something bad was going to happen today.
I gasp as I see Jackson being taken down by another classmate- and I quickly drag Marie out another fire exit.
"Mar-- are you okay?! Have you been hurt?!" I cry out over my shoulder, while clutching my stuff in one hand- and Marie's hand in the other.
"I'm fine-- I haven't been touched besides you- just keep going." She pants, obviously not used to the tremendous exercise.
I run down to her car, take her keys, and we both get in. I quickly start the car and drive down to my house. Since Marie lives alone- she doesn't have to worry about anyone to take care of- but I have my Aunt.
I park the car in my garage and hop out, running inside with Marie.
"Aunt Gem?! Aunt Gem!?" I call, impatiently looking around.
"Chris?! Oh Christina! Thank god you're alright!" She cries out, walking through the kitchen doorway and latching her arms around me.
"Come, come! We can't stay here! Let's go!" She gathers the both of us into the storage room and we begin to pack what little we have left.
After we quickly shove all of our stuff into Mar's BMW, we climb in and drive off in an unknown direction.
I drop my head into my lap, feeling the rush of panic begin to flow through my own veins. My anxiety spikes up and I begin to hyperventilate, pressing my palms around my head in a desperate attempt to stop it all.
"Chris, Chrissy, calm down! What's going on with her?!" Marie cries out to my aunt, who is driving.
"She's having an anxiety attack- she has anxiety- calm her down while I get her meds!" Aunt Gem calls.
"Okay okay-- Um- Chris, just chill out okay?" Marie says hesitantly.
My breathing starts to make me cough and I grip the car handle, just so I can grip anything.
The car suddenly jerks to a stop and my Aunt frantically calls for us to grab our necessities.
I, finally being able to catch my breath, grab my shoulder bag- consisting of all my values- and clamper out of the car. I catch a glimpse of rising smoke drifting up from the car engine.
Oh lord. Not again. Not now.
