You could hear a pin drop in the silent restaurant. Everyone around us was slowly turning their heads to look at us.
“What do you mean your breaking up with me?”
“Look Kelsey, we’ve been dating since high school. Everyone knew this wouldn’t last forever, and here we are four years later, basically forcing this relationship to work.”
“Forcing it to work? Your joking right?” My voice started to rise. I was furious.
“Kelsey, calm down. Your starting to get too much attention.” He said touching my hand in attempts to calm me down.
I yanked my hand back. “Paul, their attention hasn’t left us since you basically yelled ‘I want to break up’ in front of a crowded restaurant!”
He sighed and put his head in his hands. “Look, I have only been seeing you because I felt obliged to, and if we were right for each other, neither of us should feel like that.”
“Obliged? Are you fucking kidding me? Where did you find a line like that? You are the one that moved here two years ago. I didn’t make you! You could have chosen not to move here but you didn’t! It was your own decision to come here! I didn’t…”
“I know that Kelsey!” He yelled cutting me off. “But we were happy back then! I missed you like crazy that year we were apart!”
“So was I! You have no idea how hard it was seeing all the girls at school gushing about their boyfriends! I just kept thinking about you and wishing I could be with you!”
“Why do you think I moved here? All the guys were out having fun and enjoying college, while I was stuck there, without you! I thought moving here would make it better, but it hasn’t! All my friends I made here are having fun clubbing, partying, and hooking up with girls, while I can’t. This isn’t working out anymore! I need more!”
I gasped realizing what he meant. “Your breaking up with me because I won’t have sex with you? Seriously? Your such an asshole!”
This brought everyone else’s attention to us.
“Ok yeah, I’m breaking up with you cause you won’t have sex with me? I’m a guy! I like to fuck! It would be nice to actually have a girlfriend that wanted to do something for once!”
I stood from the table, and grabbed my purse, “Well now you can go and sleep with all the girls you want.”
I turned and started to walk away, but paused when I heard him mumble, “like anything stopped me before”
I looked at the table I had stopped by and grabbed one of their water glasses. “Let me borrow this for just one second.”
I turned, glass in hand, and marched over to Paul. Before he could even open his mouth and say a word, I threw the water in his face, smirked, then stormed out.

A half an hour later, I was walking down the street, heels in my hand, cursing the fact that Paul wanted to eat at a 4 start restaurant all the way on the other side of town. “Fucking moron.” I muttered under my breathe as I sat down on a bench to rest.
My hair had lost most of the curl I put into it, my heels had been starting to cause blisters, and I was thankful that I wore a short dress rather then the long one I had been planning on.
I can’t believe he broke up with me like that. Paul had always been a sweet guy. He had been the star quarterback in our high school, and had shocked everyone when he asked me out in the beginning of our senior year. I had been shocked too, and thought it had been a bet at first. Nobody thought that we were going to last that school year, and had been surprised that we stayed together when I left for college in New York City.
After only a year a part, he surprised me by moving to here. We never got around to moving in together, and now I was glad for that.
I sat there on the bench for a little while, until I felt water droplets hit my exposed skin. “Great, just great.”
I got up and walked towards my apartment as fast as I could, but the storm was getting worse. My dress was starting become heavy and soggy, and my hair was sticking to my face and neck. I stopped under a balcony, and started to laugh at myself. This is what I get for not bringing money with so I could call a cab.
The rain kept picking up, making it difficult to see the road a head. I looked both ways before running across the street, but thanks to the rain, didn’t see the car speeding down the street towards me. Before I knew what was happening, I saw the bright headlights, heard the breaks against the wet pavement, and felt the car crash into my side.
I feel to the ground and everything around me started to go numb. I vaguely heard the drivers door slam and the driver running towards me. I heard the driver mummer ’shit’ so I knew it was a man. He lift me out of the street and began walking somewhere, but I blacked out before I knew where I was going.
