It was a cold, harsh day. The winds sliced through the air like a harsh knife cutting deep into Lilly's bones. She pulled her coat closer, trying to preserve what body heat she could. The wet snow had already soaked her boots, and every step through the snow covered ground was a struggle. Khione must have been been in a terrible mood, or maybe she was just evil. The bus station was in sight now, and Lilly checked her coat pocket to make sure that the money was still there. Finally, she could escape this city and go to camp half blood. No protector had come for her like they had planned, and they probably thought that some monster had already killed her by now. Never mind, she thought, I am almost there anyway.

When she got to the bus station, her heart fell. the lights inside were dark and on the door hung a closed sign. How could this have happened!? She was so close, and now she would have to walk all the way home. Not that there was 'home' to go to. Lilly's mother had died only several months ago to cancer, and Lilly did NOT want to be dragged off to some orphanage. Anyways, Lilly was now a homeless orphan roaming the streets of Manhattan. She assumed that she was an orphan, her mom had never told her about her dad, other than that he was supposedly a god, and she might as well be. She trudged back to the thickest part of the city, where she nestled in an alleyway and slept.

She had a dream, a terrible dream. She was at camp half blood at last, being accepted by all the other demigods. The dream dissolved and showed an image of a giant ship in the sky, and a boy with curly brown hair and grease smudges all over his face. He stood tinkering with some old piece of golden metal. Then, that image dissolved, and she could see him and six other kids about her age, fighting off monsters, but failing. She saw them struggle, and die at the hands of Titans. Lilly  wanted to help them, but she did not know how. It was a dream, after all, and they could not see her. Finally, after they had all died, she saw a sleeping woman with a cruel face. She opened her eyes to reveal everything. Literally the entire cosmos was in her terrible eyes. The world had come to an end.

Lilly woke up crying, the sight of the apocalypse was too much for her. She cried for her mom, and realized with a pang where she was. The storm had subsided, but Lilly was incredibly  cold and probably had hypothermia or something. She got up, brushed snow off of her jeans, and went back to the bus station. she was glad to see that it was open, and happily took a bus to the stop nearest to half blood hill, which she had bee informed about via letter sent from camp half blood, saying that her protector would come soon. That was weeks ago, and no word came. Lilly ran at full speed to where the letter had said where to go; she had read the letter so many times that she knew it by heart. She had heard that there had been, at one time, monsters guarding the hill. that was before Percy Jackson, it had said. Lilly didn't know who that was, but he sounded pretty cool.

Lilly had only just reached the top of the hill when a dragon came roaring at her. She let out a scream, and everything went dark.
