On Wattpad, usernames can either make or break your reputation. It's one of the first things another Wattpadder sees of you. It could mean the difference between them clicking on your profile in curiosity, or snorting in incredulity and moving on.
Unlike many other websites, Wattpad actually allows you to change your username after you first register it. You can do this by logging in, going to your own profile, scrolling down to the end of your 'about me' and clicking 'edit'. This should lead you to a page in which you can change any of your account details, including your username.
However, Wattpad warns you that your changes can take up to 24 hours to take effect, and therefore your profile and stories may be inaccessible during this time. Also, not only will your profile links will change, but your stories inevitably will have too as well. Your cover will probably have your username on it, so you may have to go about changing your cover as well. Another side effect of changing your username is that if you have been on Wattpad for a long time and are popular, your followers have trouble trying to find you again.
You can clearly see that it is difficult to make this change, so you may as well make it count. If you've currently got a really daggy username that nobody will hold any interest in, change it! If you're not entirely sure about the difference between dashing and daggy, just ask someone! You can ask people in the club forums, friends you've made on Wattpad, people outside of Wattpad or even me!
If you've decided to make a change to your username, make sure that it's the right one. You don't want to end up changing your username over and over again. An obvious tip is to make your username unique. A good way to check this is to search it up on Wattpad. You can do this by hovering over the 'discover' button. This action should make a blue drop down menu appear. On the top left side of the menu is a 'browse' button. Click on this, and it should take you to another page which has two search bars; one for stories, and one for other users. Search your potential username up, and if there is a list of ten or fifteen similar users, drop your idea. Change this number in accordance with how unique you want your username to be.
You don't want to be stuck with a username that doesn't separate you from the rest. Also, make your username mean something, both to you and others. You want something that inspires or makes both you and others feel happy.
