To be honest, I don't even know where to begin with this topic. I'm going to be breaking this part into many other subsections so that I won't be giving you an encyclopaedia's worth of information at any one time!

I'll start with the decision of taking the step from being a reader to a writer. Before you even start planning your first story, think about the reasons why you want to write. You can do this in a similar way to how you would plan. Here's your checklist before you choose to start writing on Wattpad:

Who-

It's all about you! It's completely your choice. If you feel like you're not ready for friends to read your writing and prefer to remain anonymous for a while, create a pseudonym! I write with a nickname, but it's all up to your personal preferences.

Then, you can start thinking about what sort of audience you want to cater to. Teens who love fanfic or science-fic? Adults who are in for a great historical novel, or a thrilling crime story? Isolating who exactly you would like to write to can help you find what you would like to write about.

What-

What are you going to write about? Have you got any ideas? Dig deep and find your inspiration all around you! Often, I find reading a lot of different genres can interest you in a particular type, which you can read more about, and get a feel for the style of writing.

When-

Is this the right time? If you've been waiting around forever, trying to convince yourself that writing will be worth the time and effort you put in, then get a move on! Now is the right time, and it is the best time. I know that when you start writing, it may seem like a big commitment, with trying to fit in more Wattpad time into your potentially busy life. Admittedly, I have actually had a lot of problems with procrastination, and still do. I promise that after you get used to it, you'll get into a routine that starts with writing and ends with reward.

Why-

Why do you want to do this? Set boundaries for yourself. If you ever catch yourself questioning your writing at the start, take a break! Don't force it - it'll come when it's ready. Try something new, and pick up a new writing style! Relax and read some Wattpad favourites and get some ideas about what the audience you're aiming for will enjoy. Most of all, write for yourself! But if you are considering quitting writing, always weigh up the options before you make that final decision. Even if you have just a few fans, it he/she truly enjoys your work, it could be the stepping stone to Wattpad greatness!

Write-

So, you've looked through the checklist... Now, all that's left to do is grab a pen (or a keyboard) and a blank sheet of paper (or a screen), and start writing!
