Chapter 3
Amethyst Evans
“HAHAHA!” Sophie creased as she roared out a laugh at what John said. Jenna had brought our cakes and I had already finished mine, not a crumb was left. After our little introduction, we starting talking, well John and Sophie started talking, I didn’t know what to say and I liked watching John as smiled and made conversation. As creepy as that sounded, I had to admit that was the truth. I noticed his dimples as he smiled and the way the corner of his eyes creased.
“You’re funny!” Sophie exclaimed as she collected herself. Johns eyes flashed to mine and I dropped my gaze to my now empty plate.
“I like to make people smile.” I heard him say. Then, my plate was pulled away and another one was pushed in its place. I looked up and saw John smile again. He smiled a lot and I usually don’t like when people smile all the time.
“Here, you can eat my cake if you’re that hungry.” My eyes widened and my mouth opened like a goldfish. Truth be told, I did like eating; that’s why I had finished my cake so fast and I didn’t mind having more, but I couldn’t just take John’s cake so greedily. Before I could respond, Sophie said,
“Yeah, Amethyst loves eating.” It was true, I did and I wasn’t ashamed of it. I was also lucky to have a high metabolism. John raised his brows.
“I do like eating but I’m not going to take other people’s food away and eat it for them, Sophie” I replied.
“No it’s really fine. I wasn’t going to eat it anyway.” John said, pushing his plate further into my direction. I couldn’t face him, not while he was looking at me. Whenever I did, I would have to hold my breath and it’s only a few seconds before one has to breathe again. I recognised this feeling as a crush, but I never truly experienced it, I read it in books and heard about it in movies. Never had I thought it was true.
I finally looked at him, and drew the plate closer to me. He watched me as I picked up my spoon and started eating his slice of cake.
John Baxter
Amethyst ate my cake slowly and carefully and I couldn’t help but stare. She was not like other girls. And I know everyone says this to their special person but she really was different. Firstly, I have never met a girl who isn’t afraid to eat too much food let alone being embarrassed by it in public and secondly, Amethyst has so many sides to her. Yesterday, she was shy and today I saw her a little peeved and almost like she’s defiant. She flirted with me too today, even though it was only for 30 seconds. I was intrigued by her. Suddenly, she looked at me and then at Sophie and back at me again. I backed up, slightly confused. She was eating contently, what happened?
“Talk.” She almost demanded. Sophie looked as confused as I did and I couldn’t help but smile out of amusement.
“Don’t stare at me while I eat...it’s awkward.” She said as her face blushed with colour. There you go. She was shy again. I rested my forearms on the table and leaned forward towards her. Her eyes widened and she leaned back against her chair.
“I’ll play a song then” I said before moving back and reaching for my guitar. I grinned as I turned my back towards them. I loved seeing her blush.
“YEEEYY!” Sophie squealed and I appreciated her enthusiasm. Once I got my guitar out of its case and turned around, Amethyst was still red but the cake was finished. I had to stop myself from laughing and pressed my lips together.
“ What song would you like?” I asked.
