We're at a party. Well I guess it's more of a get together, we don't have enough friends for a party. Jon and Ash are here (Ash has more male days than female days, so we usually just call him by his old name unless asked not to) and five of our other friends. There's Cara, James, Natalia, Marsha, and Daniel. Currently we're just sitting around/jamming out to Beyonce, but I know Ash plans on coming out to the rest of the squad tonight.
After Formation ends Ash stands up and clinks a glass against a bottle to get everyone's attention. We all look over, James groans as he slowly rolls to face Ash. Probably too much to drink again. "I uh, have an announcement." Natalia and Daniel look at each other with faces of disgust, knowing damn well that Ash likes to make a big announcement every time he has to shit. But that's not what it is this time, as they find out when Ash continues speaking, "I'm... more queer than I thought." We awkwardly laughs and looks to me for help, but I don't plan on giving him any. "You guys know what genderfluidity is right?" He asks, and we all nod, "well that's what I am. I'll let you guys know when I'm having a girl day so that you can call me by my other name, Amber" Everyone nods or smiles and then Jon presses play again and Hold Up is blasting from the speakers. After Ash goes to talk to Marsha, Jon makes his way over to me. We've become a little bit closer since the awkward nacho hangout, close enough for him to talk to me about his troubles.
"I have a question," he says, quiet enough for only me to hear. "Shoot"
"Well... it's about Ash."
"Ask away pal"
"Are they still dating Russel? Like, I thought he- I mean they, was gay... so if they're genderfluid how does that work?"
I almost laugh, he seriously thinks it's a straight thing to do to ask about his buddy's dating life? "Nah, they aren't dating anymore. It's not because Ash isn't a boy anymore though, it's because Russel was a disgusting asshole. Ash still likes boys." I wink when I'm finished talking, and Jon just glares because he knows how I feel about his sexuality. "I was just curious, don't turn this into some gay shit again," he pouts. I laugh at how defensive he sounds so he leaves to go sit with Cara but she just continues to go on her phone as he stares at Ash. It's almost embarrassing to watch.
Later during the night Daniel and I are the only sober-ish ones, and we sit talking while everyone else pretends to be batman or tries to light their hair on fire. Daniel goes on forever about how great muscular asses are, so I finally decide to shut him up by asking about his opinion on Jon and Ash. "I'm honestly surprised they aren't dating yet, I mean I know Jon is straight but technically Ash is a girl so..." he trails off. Maybe that's why Jon was asking me about Ash's relationship status earlier... he could date Ash now and continue to call himself straight. He'd have to break up with his current girlfriend though, which would be a struggle considering she's actually kind of crazy (but totally hot).
