When a normal person hears the term "spy" they think of secret agents and going undercover and things along those lines.
That is not what I am.
That is not what this school is for.
The better term for us would probably be superheroes, but we had the name "spies" before the others did centuries and centuries ago.
Spies are born with one power, called a base power, out of the 7 that a spy is capable of possessing: Flying, fire, water, air, invisibility, force field, and speed.
A spy's base power is their strongest and can usually be controlled better than someone who doesn't possess the same base power. Spies are able to learn every power with practice.
I walk out of the teleporter and onto the school grounds. No one knows where this school is specifically located, except for the people who run it. The only way to get to it is by teleporter.
Some students are already on the school grounds walking, flying, showing off their powers, and more appear as they step out of the 30 teleporters behind me. Just another typical morning at Spy School.
I make my way over to a picnic table where a girl with chin length, light brown hair is sitting, reading a textbook.
"Hey, Katt," I say to her as I sit down across from her and throw my backpack on the ground next to me.
"Hey, Lexa," Katt responds, looking up from the textbook. "How are you?"
I shrug. "I'm okay... I guess. I've definitely been better."
"Oh, yeah..." Katt says. "It's today... I forgot."
Katt knows it's my birthday. She knows every reason why I hate my birthday. I didn't tell her about it, but I didn't have to. Katt is a mind reader.
Spies can sometimes have a power other than the 7 base powers. This is called a unique power. A unique power can pretty much be anything, from shapeshifting into a cat to melting into a puddle. Spies can share unique powers; they are called "unique" because most spies don't have them. Some of the most common ones are reading minds and being able to move things with your mind. A unique power usually shows up before a spy is 18, but on rare occasions, it can happen later in life.
Katt's mind reading ability came when she was about 11 years old. It took her about six months to be able to fully control her ability. Before she could control it she would hear people's thoughts in her mind that she wasn't trying to hear (and learned a few things about people she really didn't want to know). During that time she found out about what happened on my 4th birthday.
"Did you forget to do your homework or something?" I ask her, looking at the textbook in front of her.
"No, I'm just studying a bit. Mr. Marx is giving us a pop quiz in science today," she explains as she closes the book and puts it away in her bag. That's one of the advantages of having a mind reader as a best friend.
Katt looks off somewhere behind me and smiles.
"What is it?" I ask looking behind me and seeing nothing.
"Adrian is going to try to scare you," Katt's voice says in my head. Once she learned to control her mind reading power, Katt found out that she could also communicate with people by sending a message with her mind.
I roll my eyes. "Typical Adrian," I think.
"3, 2, 1..." Katt mentally counts down.
"BOO!!!" A girl with long red hair appears out of thin air right next to me. I don't even flinch as Adrian tries to scare me. Her base power is invisibility, the same one that Katt has, which means she does a perfect job at becoming invisible. I have trouble with invisibility. I can go transparent but I haven't been able to completely disappear yet.
"Oh, come on!" Adrian whines. "I didn't scare you at all?"
I shake my head. "Nope."
Katt grins and tries to hold back a giggle.
Adrian glares at Katt. "I hate you."
"I love you, too," Katt responds. We all start laughing.
A bell rings, meaning that school is going to start and the students all make their way to the school building.
"You guys want to meet up here after school?" I ask.
"Sure," Adrian replies.
"Yeah," Katt says. "I just have to make sure to get Luke sent home first." Luke is Katt's 9 year old brother. It isn't unusual to have siblings that are also spies, but the chances of being born a spy are small. If neither of your parents are spies, it's highly unlikely, and if none of your grandparents are spies, it's virtually impossible. Many times, there is just a single spy in a family with siblings who don't have powers.
The three of us walk into the school building along with the rest of the students.

HELLO EVERYBODY ON EARTH AND NARNIA AND ANYONE OUT THERE NAMED TERRRRRRENCE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Here is chapter 2 finally!!! I'm sorry it takes me forever to update my stories. I feel like every single author's note I make has an apology in it.... sorry guys...
School obviously started up a little while ago and I have been busy with school work for the past 3 weeks.
I also have been writing this story out of order. I already have the ending done and have a few of the really important parts that happen later in the story written down in my notebook, so its not like I haven't been writing at all, but I obviously can't put up an update until I actually write the part that is supposed to come next.
I tried to explain some of the important things in this chapter about what a spy is and everything. It makes sense to me but I wrote it so I know what I'm trying to say. If it's confusing at all or there is something about it that doesn't make sense, feel free to let me know and I will try to fix it to make more sense. (I'm basing this off of an imaginary world I made up as a little kid so I'm just now figuring out the technical details).
Ok so I think that is all I have to say in this author's note, so I'll write more later!!!!
YEEP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
