Zoe's POV:
Alanis and I had a small conversation, exchanged numbers and went on our separate ways. As I walk home I can't get her out of my mind. Alanis. That names echoes endlessly in my brain. Alanis. Alanis. Alanis. I turn on an Alanis Morrisette song on my phone. All I want to do is text her but I probably sound like an insane stalker. I feel like one anyway to be completely honest. I finally approach my house. I let out a sigh of relief as I open my door and head into the kitchen. As usual my house is filled with the smells of a million spices.
" Who's coming over now? " I ask my mom as she slaves over the stove, clearly working hard to prepare a meal.
" No one! " She chimes in happily. " Just wanted my lovely children to have a good end of the year celebration meal! "
" Well thanks.. I'll be in my room if you need me. Love you mom! "
I rush upstairs and flip happily into bed. I can't help but grin ear to ear. Do I... Zoe Aranmara actually have a crush? No.. I can't. Can I? Suddenly my phone buzzes and I check it a bit to eagerly. It's a text from Alanis!
" Hey..Sorry if I'm texting you way too soon :/ "
I smile and send a message back.
" No not at all! What's up? "
" I'm on the bus. Some kid next to me won't shut up about 'Getting hella ass'. It's some jerky football player. "
" Haha, I know who you're taking about. He's terrible. "
" Lol hey, my stop is coming up. I can call you when I get home..Or FaceTime you or something. If you want to I mean... "
I can feel my face blushing bright red as I text back.
" Totally! Talk to you then :) "
I instinctively pull out my homework before realizing its summer. My body fills with a rush of relief. I pop in my headphones and continue listening to that Alanis Morrisette song. Instead of homework I bring out my drawing pad and some colored pencils I just bought. I doodle hearts and flowers for probably an hour before I hear my mom come in my room.
" Zoe darling.. Dinner is done. Grandma is downstairs. "
I nod and push my drawings under my pillow. I put on a baggy tshirt and hurry downstairs. If my grandmother saw me in the tank top I had been wearing she'd probably have a heart attack. To be fair I don't know how much she'd be into my 'DARE Not To Do Drugs' shirt.
" Zoe! Hello dear! It's been AGES since I saw you! What is with that hair? Boys like classic beauty you know. Looking like cotton candy won't get you a good husband you know. " My grandmother says as she rushes up to hug me. I love her but if only she knew.. I'm not into guys. If only anyone knew.
" Hi grandma. Don't worry about me finding a husband, I'm only 18. It's wonderful to see you. How about we have some dinner? I'm starving! " I give her a tight hug and lead the both of us over to the table. After a dinner that seemed like years, I rush upstairs to check my phone.
'1 Missed Call From Alanis'
and a text.
" Hey, you didn't answer. What's up? "
I sigh and hurry to answer.
" Sorry!!! I had to eat dinner and my grandmother doesn't seem to understand how to stop talking. "
We send a few smiley faces before she says something that makes my heart jump out of my chest.
" Hey... Could I come over? I know we just met and I may sound crazy but I'm super bored.. We could go swimming? "
I feel a bit too excited to be honest.
" Yeah! I have a pool actually. I'll send you my address. See you in a bit :) "
