Emalise stretched and checked the clock on her desk. Four hours of Spanish, check. She stood up and looked around her room. Clean, nothing on the beige walls, only the bare minimum on her desk and dresser. She sighed. Her mothers dream bedroom. Grabbing her lit book she threw herself into her chair. two hours to go.
At the half hour mark she smiled as Guys Like Me By Eric Church played on her phone, her boyfriends ringtone. 'Hey Matty!' 'Emalise I told you I DON"T like that nickname!' 'Oh I know.' Smiling into the phone, 'So what's up?' ' I was just calling to remind my studyholic that we have a movie date in a few hours.' 'OH!' 'I knew you'd forget. It's ok, I know you have to keep that 4.0.' 'I am so sorry!' she slapped her forehead and began to rummage through her closet. "I'll get ready now, what time?' "the movie starts at 7 and I was thinking dinner? So 5:30?' 'Ok baby, see you then.' 'I'll pick you up in a few hours, luv ya darling.' 'Goodbye' 'Bye'
She dove into her closet. What to wear, what to wear! Dinner and a movie. hmm.. Jeans and a shirt would work, but that felt a little too casual, Emalise switched to her summer dresses, so what if it's fall? Add some boots and a jean jacket and it's perfect. She pulled a knee length deep blue cotton dress with a lacy overskirt and paired with her chocolate brown cowboy boots. Natural make up, her go to look, and she was set.
At 5:30 on the dot Matthews rusty pickup pulled into the drive. Emalise checked her appearance in the mirror one last time before heading down the stairs. Matthew was in the entry way talking with her dad. As he looked up and their eyes met he stopped talking. 'uhh... Hi Emalise' 'Hey' She smiled at his confusion. Tall, blonde, piercing dark eyes, total farm boy with his boots and jeans and a big plus in her mind, killer abs and muscles like rocks. 'Well, you two better get going.' Her dad grinned at them. 'Be careful with my daughter boy.' ;Don't worry sir' 'Bye Daddy' 'I love you baby girl.'
After a lovely dinner and a movie that neither of them saw much of they sat together in the bed of Matthews truck. 'Here' He wrapped a blanket around her shoulders. 'Look, that's the Big Dipper right..... there! Now follow that line.' He leaned close and guided her hand as he spoke. 'That's the North Star.' Emalise smiled up at him. 'Our farm is south in a straight line from your house, find that and turn around and you'll be facing my house.' 'That's neat, I didn't know that.' Matthew wrapped his arm around her shoulders. They sat quietly watching the stars. 'You want some music? Matthew suddenly broke the silence. 'Sure' He jumped off the tailgate and turned on his stereo. 'I uhh got a new cd the other day. I've been playing it out on the barn.' 'Who's it by?' 'Justin Moore.' "Really! I love him!' 'I know.' He smiled at her. 'You look absolutely beautiful tonight.' 'Aww. Thanks Matty darling.' She snuggled close so he couldn't see her smirk. 'You look pretty good yourself. Thanks for tonight.' He sighed. 'Fine, only you can call me that and you are very welcome.' Kissed her forehead and sighed again. 'It's almost 11:30, I need to get you home.' 'uuhhhhh, but I'm so comfy!' Emalise protested as she shifted and prepared to stand. 'Well I'd like to stay on your dads good side, he is my Doc after all. I'd hate to bring you home an hour late and piss him off, then get sick and have to go see him the next week.' 'I see your point,' She made a face at him. 'I guess we should go now.'
Emalise opened the front door and greeted her dad sitting in his chair in the living room. Just like he always was when she got home late. 'Hi Daddy, I'm home on time. It is Matthew after all.' 'I'll always wait up for you as long as you live under my roof.' Her dad smiled and pulled her close. Planting a kiss on the top of her head he gently shoved her in the direction of the stairs. 'Now go to sleep! There's church tomorrow bright and early.' 'Fine I'm going!' She laughed and ran up the stars to her room. 'Goodnight!' 'Good night, sweet dreams.'
