Sutton Chance
“The Good Christian Girl”
Summer was finally here! Gosh, it felt like junior year was never going to end. Pulling out of the parking lot of campus even seemed unreal.

I shrugged out of bed. It was only noon so I still had a day to waste. Summer so far had been boring but Sheriden had told me she had a plan to spice things up. My phone buzzed and I quickly grabbed it before my annoying little sister had a chance to stand up.
“SHERIDEN TEXT MESSAGE”
I smiled. Hopefully Sheriden had a plan to spice up summer. Knowing Sheriden, she did.
“Hey girl! Hope ur summer is going gr8 so far. I’m having a party later. Call for details.”
I dialed Sheriden’s number from memory and listen to it ring before she finally picked up. “H…hello?” Sheriden sounded groggy. “Did I interrupt your beauty sleep princess?” I laughed.
“No…not really.” I heard rustling noises. Sometimes I didn’t want to know. “So, you want details about my party or are you just calling to say hi?”
“Um…party. Duh.” Charity was mouthing; “Can I come?” from the sofa as I talked. I grimaced in her direction.
“Okay well show up to my house at 7. You don’t really need to bring anything but if you do, great.”
“That’s it? I assumed you would have everything planned to a T already.” Sheriden was a planner to say the least. She had been planning her wedding since she was six.
“I did but my loving neighbor, Naydia, invited herself and Haylee.” She sighed.
“Really?” I groaned. Naydia was Dylan’s crazy ex girlfriend. Haylee was her best friend, more like minion if you asked me. She also happened to live next door to Sheriden and constantly get in my business.
“Yeah, well she has her ways of getting under my skin and my parents love her so I couldn’t say no.”
“What did she do?” Sheriden didn’t take shit from anyone so if Naydia had skunked her way in, she’d done something bad.
“She’s just…observant…” Sheriden paused awkwardly.
“Sheriden Alexandria Nicola. What happened?”
“Ugh. Don’t call me my god-awful middle name. I’ll put it this way- Naydia had really bad timing on ‘returning’ the sweater she ‘borrowed’ from me.”
“Well, I can tell your using air quotes and being sarcastic but that still doesn’t help anything.”
“She caught me and Blake having sex. Happy now?”
“Ewwwwww! I did not need that mental picture.” Sheriden smirked. “You wanted to know.”
“Yuck. Yuck. Yuck. Okay, well my mom’s home so talk to you later. Bye.”
“See you later sis.”

I rang Sheriden’s doorbell. Some stranger wearing a lampshade answered it and let me in. “Sheriden?” I screamed. Music was blasting out of every speaker in the house and people were dancing everywhere. It was true; rich white kids threw the best parties. “Sher?” I yelled as I walked into the kitchen.
“Hey!” She was standing next to a bowl of chips. “I’m glad you made it.”
“Okay, how are you getting away with this party?”
“My parents don’t care. And besides, they went with my aunt to Aruba yesterday.” She smiled. I laughed and went to look for anyone else I possibly knew. I thought the entire junior class and possibly the sophomore class were here. “Hey!” I looked around to identify the voice. It was Blake. Awkward. “Hi.” I smiled awkwardly. “Are you okay? C’mon it’s a party!”
“I’m fine. Yeah, it is a party maybe I should um…relax.”
“Yeah, chill out Sutton.” Blake raised his cup and smacked it against mine. “Drinks up!”
“Oh my gosh.” I face palmed. It shouldn’t have surprised that there was alcohol at a high school party but I couldn’t help but feel like I was in a bad teen movie. “I need fresh air.” I said to no one in practicular. I shoved my way through the party to Sheriden patio. It over looked her pool, which was full of kids. “Sutton!” A voice yelled from the pool. I walked in the direction of the voice. Before I knew it, a bikini clad Naydia was hugging me. “Hello Naydia.” This was really strange. “Hey! How’ve you been? We never see each other anymore.”
“Yeah, how funny is that. I’ve been good though, what about you?” As Naydia droned on about her life I looked for a way out. Dylan. He was standing over by some kids talking. “Naydia?”
“What?” She said. I guess I interrupted her mid sentence.
“Well, it was been so lovely catching up with you but there’s Dylan, so I’d better say hi.” I shrugged lightly.
“Oh.” Her face darkened. “Well hopefully I see you around school and all. Oh and just so you know, you need to keep your paws off my man.”
“Last time I checked, we weren’t in second grade and Dylan was my boyfriend so peace.” I rolled my eyes and walked away.
Honestly, that was one of the last things I remembered. The next things were waking up outside, covered in glitter, holding a garden gnome, and totally confused. I stood up, brushed my self off and began to walk towards Sheriden’s house. The doors to the inside of the house were locked so I jumped my way around the hedges to my car outside her front door. To my surprise, the outside of the house looked normal.

After arriving home, lying to my parents about what happened and going to my room, I checked Facebook. My news feed looked like how I felt. Crazy.
SHERIDEN NICOLA: Come to my party! :)
HAYLEE REED: I swear to drunk I’m not god.
SEAN ST.JAYMES: Let’s get wasted!!!!!!
HOLLAND CHANCE: Party! :D Luv you girlie.
I scrolled through the rest of the updates, crazy stuff went down last night for sure. However, something caught my eye.
SHERIDEN NICOLA: Whoops, I’m single! Haha! :)
What? I was so calling her as soon as I wanted to do damage control. Which would probably be after I slept for a few hours. I heard a knock on my door. Or maybe not. “Come in!” I yelled.
“Hey Sutton!” It was Chairty smiling as usual.
“What do you need, sis? I’m kind of tired.”
“Well you can sleep later. Sheriden’s here, she brought Sealy.”
“What?” Sealy was Sheriden’s little sister. They hated each other. Sheriden didn’t get a long with any of her siblings.
“Yeah. Just get your butt upstairs before they leave.”
“How long have they been here?”
“About an hour.”
“Great.” I threw a hoodie over my head and followed Charity upstairs.
