Chapter 6: The Bonus Sweep

"We are ready to see those totals and see who is going to the bonus round! We will start with Suzie and George, let's see how much that bonus is worth." The host says.

George rips off the card on the inflatable red M&M guy they got and reveals a price of $50.

"Fifty dollars!" Blake says enthusiastically, "With that and all your groceries your total comes to....." He pauses for dramatic effect, but since they are going first I already know they have a low score. "....Eight hundred and fifty dollars!"

We all clap and wait for the host to do our totals. He turns to us and I can't help but wonder if that is good or bad. "North and Sang, you brought me my breads, that's $250! Along with the mystery item, another $200!"

I hold up both items as he announces them just like the director told me to. "And $100 for the coffee! Now let's see how much that bonus is worth, it sure is a big one!" The host chuckles at his own joke as North rolls his eyes and peels off the price card to reveal a measly $75.

Our host continues, "$75! Now earlier in the game you won the mini sweep for $100 adding all the bonuses to your grocery total brings you to two thousand one hundred and seventy five dollars!!"

The fake applause gets louder and North gives me a hug and I squeal in delight at our high total. There is no way Luke and Gabriel can beat us. That thought quickly leaves my mind when I look over and see his gigantic pile of groceries. How did he get so much stuff?

"Luke and Gabriel, you were busy here with the carts! We have never had anyone fill five carts in the big sweep!"

"I know how to shop!" Luke shouts.

"Well let's see if it was enough. I see you got me one pound of candy." The host pauses while Luke holds up the bag. "That's $100. Peel off that sticker and let's see how much your bonus is worth."

Gabriel leans over to their inflatable Snapple bottle and peels off the sticker.

"$250!!!" Mr. Blake shouts and we all clap for their team---well everyone but North. "Now adding all that to your groceries you have a grand total of...." He does that dramatic pause again and I really feel like he's holding it longer than he is supposed to. "...two thousand..." Another pause and I can tell North is getting angry. "...One hundred..."

"Don't fucking pause!" North bellows, pointing a finger at the host.

"Cut!!" The director shouts, "This is a family show there is no swearing, now take it from the top!"

North groans in frustration at his lack of control and waits patiently, as patiently as a ticking time bomb, for the total of the last team--again. And to make matters worse, the host starts over with their totals going through the inflatable and candy bonus again.

"Your grand total is two thousand, one hundred and....fifty dollars!!! That means Sang and North you are going to the bonus sweep for a chance to win $5,000!!"

I jump up and down and North sweeps me up and spins me around. Sooo not like North, that's something I'd expect Gabriel to do, but I guess North is extremely excited he doesn't have to eat a bunch of cookies.

"Welcome back to Supermarket Sweep! We are here with North and Sang." The host introduces the audience back to the show. "Here's how the bonus sweep works, I will read you a clue and you need to find that product out in the store. On the back of that product is the next clue. You solve all three clues and get your hands on the five thousand dollars before the 60 second buzzer and you win!"

I clap and jump up and down excited to start, I know once this is over my nerves will hit me, but right now I'm just ready to go!

"Here's your first clue: If you mix Green and Blue you get half the name of this minty gel."

I think of my guys while the host is reading off the clue and it's easy for me to figure out. Gabriel loves mixing green and blue in varying degrees to make aqua and Aquafresh is the toothpaste Kota makes me use to brush my teeth after I have a nightmare.

"Aquafresh!!" I shout at North and we take off running towards the toothpaste. I see the box with a red star on it, but North was faster. He grabs it and reads the clue on the back, "Just think of that thing that bodybuilders do to show off their muscles. What the fuck?"

That last sentence wasn't part of the clue, but again I solve it instantly with a little visual of Nathan flexing his muscles. "Flex! It's a shampoo."

We start looking in the same aisle we are in because shampoo and toothpaste have to be in the same place, right?

"It's not here!" I say to North, my voice breaking a little at the end.

"Next aisle." He says while dashing around the corner. He finally finds the shampoo and reads the last clue that will take us to the $5,000. "One of the four traditional "somethings" for a bride; plus actor Lou _____ Phillips."

"Actor Lou something Phillips, what's the blank?" North asks me.

"I don't know any actors! I spent sixteen years not watching television! Let's focus on the other part. Something new, something old...what are the other things for brides."

"Fuck if I know, you're a girl, you should know these things."

"Something blue!"

"Blue!! Blue Diamond! It's almonds, they're healthy." North says. Of course adding the nutritional value of the nut while we run towards where we think the almonds are.

"So I guess the actor is Lou Diamond Phillips?" I ask while we run around.

"Five!! Four!!!" The fake audience shouts.

"Where are they!?!?!" I shout going one way while North goes in the opposite direction.

"Three!! Two!!!...."

"I see them!!" I shout as loud as I can. The plastic package is right in my sight, the red sticker on the front and I can see the green bills peeking out from behind it. I do my best to make it and snatch the money, but I was too late.

"One!!" BUZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZ!!! The buzzer sounds and two seconds later I'm at the shelf where the money is.

The host makes his way over along with North from across the store.

"Well, here it is." Mr. Blake says taking the money out from behind the almond bag. "You solved the clue, but didn't make it to the money in time."

North grunts at the hosts repeating of what happened. He just stands grumpily next to me while I'm still smiling; happy to even be on this show. Mr Blake finishes off his duties by wrapping up the episode. He turns to the camera, "Thank you for joining us, now next time you are in the checkout stand and you hear that beep." BEEP BEEP "...think of all the fun you can have on..."

"Supermarket Sweep!!" I shout while throwing my hands in the air.

"CUT!!!" The director yells, "You're both supposed to say it enthusiastically!"

North grunts and shrugs his shoulders, "What's there to be enthusiastic about, we lost."

"Oh never mind. You swore anyways during the Bonus Sweep, I doubt we'll be able to use your episode."
