"Forty days until we can finally get out of this hell hole," Kat smirked as we walked up the front steps that led to StoneCreek High School- the only High School within a two hundred mile radius.
"I think it's actually about twenty-two for you. Since you hardly bother to show up to any class on time or at all," I smiled softly as I clutched my gas station coffee closer and twirled my cross keychain around my finger.
"Look who's talking, 'Miss I'm not picking you up until noon because Math, Science, and Physical Education don't matter," Kat joked as she nudged my shoulder and made a face about my earlier comment.
"Hey! Do you see these biceps?" I questioned her as I flexed."No... they're squishy though," She remarked peering close at my muscles that 'only existed when nobody touched them'.
"Fuck off," I laughed and took a drink of my banana nut flavored coffee.
"Hey, that wasn't very Godly," She smirked- knowing perfectly well we are not all perfect creatures.
I shrugged her off and continued walking to my English class.
She ran to catch up to me, "Alyssa, did you know Mr. Norman had a stroke last night and won't be back until next year?"
"What! That's terrible- he was my favorite teacher," I muttered under my breath.
"Lying is a sin," She joked, knowing full well Mr. Norman hated my guts- he hated most kids actually but for some reason the grouch just couldn't appreciate my humor.
"Who's the replacement then?" I questioned staring at his old room.
"I have no idea, you'll know before I do though, you are about to go into that class- unless you're planning on ditching all four of your classes today," she mused while also adjusting her back pack."I have five classes you know," I retorted.
"You have Art, and don't even bother acting like you show up- I see you sleeping in the library's 'Teacher's Only Section'," She laughed as she went across the hall to her fourth block- Trigonometry.
"Yeah, well Mr. Norman was the only one who ever went in there anyways- dying old bat," I mumbled.
"What's colder today? The weather or Alyssa's attitude?" Kat smiled as she winked at me and slipped into her own class.
"I'd go with the weather! I hear ninety is pretty cold in hell!" I shouted after her- knowing the doors hardly blocked out any noise.
I paused and made sure my gray tank-top was still tucked into my denim jeans before I opened the door and stepped into what I now call the Lion's Den.
