Lou sighed and leant her head against the door, she felt for Kyle, no matter how stupid he had been, he was still her son. As a mother it hurt to see your child in pain, deserved or not.

Amelia popped her head out from around the banister at the top of the stairs.

'Thank you....for not saying anything.' she said, her face pale, tears forming in her eyes. She missed him, the sound of his voice, the scent of his cologne. She wanted to give in, to run to him and to feel his arms wrapped around her. She had to stand firm on this though, it wasn't just herself she had to protect.

'Amelia honey, you've got to talk to him. He's heartbroken. I've never seen him like this before.' Lou stepped forward and pulled the sobbing girl into her arms.

'I just can't I'm sorry.'

'Please Amelia. He is my son and I know he hurt you but please I'm begging you. It hurts to see him like this, when you have my grandchild you will understand honey. You would do anything to keep them hurting for a minute longer than necessary. Please, I'm begging you, just talk to him just for five minutes.'

Amelia sat down heavily at the bottom of the stairs exasperated 'Fine.....Ok, I'll see him, but only if he come's here.'

Louisa smiled at the lovely, lonely sweet woman sat in front of her. She would be proud to have her as a part of her family. Inwardly she was still seething over the hurt her son had caused. Pulling her phone from out of her pocket, she called her son.

Kyle was still sat on his mother's porch, feeling sorry for himself. He huffed as his phone started to buzz in his pocket, pulling it out he answered without looking to see who it was.

'What' he answered rudely.

'Kyle Fox, is that anyway to talk to your mother.'

'Sorry mom, why are you calling me?'

'I need you to come back, right now.'

'I haven't left yet, I'm still on the porch.' he turned as the front door opened behind him.

Kyle followed his mother back into the house and toward the living room.

'Sit' she ordered.

Kyle sat and waited for his mother to begin.

'Kyle, I need to show you something and you have to promise to be calm.'

'Ok, mom I'll be calm. Please can we just get this done, I need to find Amelia. She's disappeared off the face of the earth. Nick and I have looked everywhere, even the bus station, I just can't find her.' Kyle raked his hands through his hair, frustrated.

'That's what I need to talk to you about. You can come out now honey.' Lou watched as her son looked towards Amelia standing in the doorway. At once, his expression change from complete and utter devastation, to relief.

'Hello Kyle.' Amelia's voice was barely audible.

Neither one saw Louisa leave the room. They only had eyes for each other.

Amelia sat opposite Kyle, he hadn't said a word in the last 5 minutes, instead he just watched her. His gaze straying to her tummy and the little life that lay within. Finally after what felt like forever he spoke.

'I didn't touch her I promise. She was just there when I came back from that meeting. Nick assumed the worst had happened, but I swear I didn't touch her.'

'I believe you. What about the bet?'

'We made the stupid bet when we met you, I didn't know you. As soon as we started seeing each other I forgot about it, I didn't want to tell you, because I'd loose you, and that wasn't an option, I couldn't loose you. I haven't felt like this about anyone before. I'm new to this. I know I fucked up.'

As yet he had made no move to touch her, but she could see he was desperate to. Maybe the news she had to impart would change that. Taking a deep breath she found the courage to somehow spit it out.

'Kyle I'm pregnant.'

'I know Amelia.' Kyle chuckled at Amelia as her eyes widened and she lost all colour.

'How?' Amelia asked, horrified.

'You've got a scan, the nurse called. She couldn't get hold of you she left a message on your work number, Nick and I found out 3 days ago, we couldn't find you.'

'Oh. Kyle I'm 7 weeks pregnant.'

Kyle felt his heart sink, the pain that her baby wasn't his hurt more than he thought it would.

'Kyle the baby, It's yours.'

'Amelia, we had sex for the first time 3 weeks ago, how could it possibly be mine.' Kyle rounded on her angry. How could she lie to his face.

'You remember the second time that you were fucking Bethany in her office and then you came to me with wine and Chinese. Yeah, then. I was a virgin you bastard. I was stupid enough to sleep with you despite the fact you were with her and then you woke up and forgot everything. Do you know how that makes me feel?........DO YOU KYLE? I'll tell you, cheap and nasty. I was so hurt after my dad died. You took the pain away.................... She told me you had been together. I found out because I went to a clinic to be tested to see if I caught anything off you. But somehow......I was still stupid enough to fall in love with you, despite all of that shit. I'm done Kyle. I'll do this alone. You can have your little slut.'

'No Amelia, you don't get to do that. You don't tell me you love me and tell me to fuck off in the same sentence. I love you Amelia. I regret ever touching that woman, but I had no idea I was going to fall in love with you did I? I didn't ask for that. I didn't expect it Amelia. Why didn't you tell me?' Kyle moved to sit in front of her.

'I was so embarrassed that you couldn't remember, then when I found out I was pregnant I didn't know how to tell you that I got pregnant.'

'You know Amelia for someone so smart, you are incredibly stupid sometimes. I would have stayed if it wasn't my baby...and I do remember.  I didn't until recently, but I do remember. I love you Amelia, can't you see that.'

Amelia nodded shyly. This was certainly a new experience. Love.

Kyle pulled a small blue velvet box out of his pocket and flicked it open. Inside lay a square cut diamond ring enclosed within a series of smaller diamonds. It was simple, but perfect.

'Amelia, we haven't known each other long, but I know there will be no one but you. I love you, please Amelia. Marry me.'
