Y/N's POV

It had been a few months since the end of the 65th Hunger Games and my birthday was approaching quickly. I had just wanted a small family get together where we could all just spend time together and relax, but my grandfather seemed to have other ideas on how a girl should be spending her 14th birthday. So him and my mother took it upon themselves to throw a birthday extravaganza, but I guess that's one of the perks of being the granddaughter of President Snow.  I was already seen as a spectacle to my family as I was not into the fashion trends of the Capitol. To me it just all seemed silly and to over the top. As my birthday approached I had been given gifts from many relatives, the gift of plastic surgery which I had kindly refused. I truly believe in natural beauty and just enhancing what i've already got rather than cutting it off and remolding it. The only truly Capitol features that I owned was my dyed F/C hair and regularly painted nails, but besides that there really weren't many trends I chose to follow. My siblings didn't see it that way though, when they had turned 14 they practically drank up the first chance at surgically modifying their bodies.

"Ah Y/N there you are, you must stop wandering away" My grandfather said as he approached me

"Sorry grandfather but I just couldn't resist the view of the gardens, they're just so mesmerizing" I said standing up from the window seat.

"That is quite alright my darling your mother and I were just looking to finalize a few things for you so that your party tomorrow will be fantastic".

"Of course grandfather" I replied following him through the maze like halls of his mansion until I came to the ballroom which was beautifully decorated in  F/C's and as I looked around I thought that it couldn't have been more perfect even if it wasn't how I had pictured tomorrow going.

"It's beautiful, thank you grandfather and thank you mother" I said bringing them both into hugs.

"oh your welcome darling I was hoping you would like it" My mother said smiling at me

"Now I will leave your outfit of choice to you, but please do try to wear something respectable and elegant" My mother reminded me before walking out of the room my grandfather following her.

*Time skip to tomorrow*

I had been pacing my room for hours watching the guests flood into the mansion through the window in my room. I found it funny how all these people were here to celebrate me yet none of them knew the first thing about me. Taking a deep breath I made my way down the stairs and into the ballroom. Many people greeted me saying a quick 'happy birthday' and then getting back to whatever they were doing. I walked over to the punch bowl and got myself a glass then proceeded to quietly sip it while standing in the corner. I was about halfway through my glass when a tanned boy with blonde hair and sea green eyes approached me

"Now tell me, why would the main event of the party be standing all alone in the corner?" He asked

"Well it seems that most of the people who were invited have come more for the party rather than the person the parties for. I don't even know a quarter of the people here." I said to him then continues

" Oh!  where are my manners i'm Y/N, but um I have a slight feeling you already know that" I finished. He chuckled

"I'm Finnick, Finnick Odair" He said with a small smile playing on his lips

"Oh the boy who won in the Games a few months back" I said

" It would appear so" he replied

"I'm sorry they made you go through that, I'm sorry they make anyone go through that. It's so stupid" I sighed finally being able to speak my mind in the subject. God forbid anyone from the Capitol heard me and told my mother, I would be grounded for life and waste away in one of the many rooms of the mansion. Finnick looked at me with furrowed brows

"Really?" he asked

"Well yeah, I mean we're all people why can't we all just get along together. If only the other people here in the Capitol viewed it this way as well" I finished. Finnick looked at me a wide smile playing on his lips.

"I think, that you and I will get along quite well together" He said eyes sparkling with happiness. The rest of the night I spent with Finnick just walking around the garden the party being long forgotten spending time getting to know the real him not the version that the Capitol wanted us to see knowing that I had just started what would become one of the best friendships i'd ever had.
