"Wren, listen. It won't take long for Purple Man to realize his men are down."
I didn't say anything. I was still too stunned to talk.
Ma-Daredevil broke off the hand cuffs and I stood up. Right as he was putting his mask back on I have him a hug.
"Thank you." I said softly. I let him go and we walked out the door. As we walked down the stairs I could he people outside talking. I could tell what they were there for."There are people coming. Two men." I warned.
"I know. Stay back a little." I stood still and waited until he reached the bottom of the stairs. I was standing far behind now, Daredevil stood on the left side of the door the voices were emerging from. It swung open and he punched the first guy in the jaw, he jumped back. The second guy going towards him, Daredevil stomped on his knee area. He then struck him in the chest with his palm. Daredevil grabbed them by the arms, both men were in too much pain to resist, and dragged them to the wall near me.
"I are they dead?" I muttered.
"No, just really hurt." He replied, grunting from dragging the bodies.
He propped both of them against the wall, one was trying to move his head straight up.
"This is how we're going to do this, I'm going to ask you a question and you will answer it. If you don't give me a straight answer you are going to feel a lot of pain. Got it?" He asked. The other guys didn't answer."Where is Killgrave?" He said in a stern voice.
"I'm not telling you anything. You think I'm that stupid." One of the men said, one wearing wearing a green wrinkled shirt said. Daredevil punched his side, the man grunted out of pain.
"You, Where's Killgrave?" He asked the other man.
"I'm not telling you anything." He said, he spat in Daredevil's face. He punched him, hard...and swiftly. It caught me by surprise, as well as the guy he punched.
"Don't spit. That's gross." Daredevil told him as he smacked him. " Now, answer the question."
"Man, we ain't tellin' you nothing. If we do saw anything, Killgrave'll bust a cap in us, right between the eyes." Daredevil gave one strong gut punch. The man groaned loudly and coughed several times. "Okay! Okay. He's...he's...he's on Westbrook, don't tell him i said anything, i don't want to end up like the others. Man i didn't even want to be apart of this, he forced me to. He does that to people."
"I'm sorry you were caught in this. Go far, far away and lay low for a while." The two guys struggled to get to their feet, but when they did they limped over to and out the door. Daredevil called for me. I walked down the stairs and over next to him. I felt really confused, i didn't think Matt was capable of hurting someone. Not because he's blind, but because he was always so down to earth, so open to opportunities to help people, considering he's an attorney. We walked out the door. The breeze in the night blew in my face, knocking the wind out of me. For the first time ever, the city was...asleep. There were no sounds of traffic, the citizens voices were faint, somewhat fearful. I could hear a couple children questioning their parents. They were scared, just like me. I was scared, just the feeling of knowing that my childhood hero is my dad kind of makes that fearful feeling fade. It is also a bit weird, but hey who's complaining?
We were walking for five minutes behind buildings and in the shadows until Matt climbed up a fire escape. It took me a second to actually register he wanted me to follow him. Of course I didn't climb as good as him but I finally did it. After we made it to the roof of the building he stood there in the middle. He held out a finger, indicating me not to move. Then he grunted and ran towards the edge, opposite of where we came up. He leaped from the building he was just standing on to the next one. He expected me to follow.
"MATT!" I yelled then immediately gasped and covered my mouth with my hand. " I probably shouldn't have yelled that out."
He didn't respond."Nobody heard." He finally said. "See if you can find another way to follow, just don't fall to far behind. I'm going out on a limb here."
"After what I just witnessed, I don't think limbs are what you need to worry about." I muttered. He laughed.
I managed to keep up with him, by running in allies and making sure he's not too far ahead. My plan worked well enough.
We eventually made it the spot Purple Man was at.
He was initiating some block break down. A few buildings around the block were back under construction. His face was oddly familiar. I've seen him before, I just don't know where. The men he were talking to had sledge hammers and were in construction worker gear. Daredevil stood still, listening to their conversation, I could hear too."Knock every wall down. No exceptions. When you're done, dump all of the debris into this dumpster. Tomorrow morning we start the reconstruction." He told the three men with the sledge hammers.
"Stay here, don't move. Stay in the exact same spot. Wait til I come back." Daredevil told me, he waited for the guys to disappear and walked the opposite direction. I could tell he was trying to climb onto the roof of the building closest to the one they were knocking down. I saw him jump into the roof. After a few moments I heard yelling and screaming. Several bones were being snapped and the guys must've been using the sledge hammers against him because I could hear the hammer heads hitting metal foundation.
"Guys, the screamin' ain't necessary!" Zebidiah, or Purple Man yelled. The excessive noise continued. I winced in fear. I was trembling.
After about three more minutes of fighting, the noises stopped completely. Purple Man was getting a little tense. He turned around towards the building, confused as of to why the noises stopped. Right as he turned around, before he could take his first step, a red pipe-like stick hit him in the face. I jumped back in surprise. He fell to the ground and struggled a bit to gain footing.
Daredevil leaped from a window, from what looked like the second floor, at Purple Man's feet. He grabbed him by the shirt collar and punched him in the face, with full knuckle-to-nose contact."You think I'd let it be this easy?" He told Daredevil. His voice had a long, eery sound to it. Just at those words Daredevil was on the floor, stiff, non fighting. I listened closer for a breathe or a beat. I could, but very calm, he was deeply asleep.
I was debating whether I should run out there and do something. I didnt know what to do. I couldn't just leave him there. Purple Man needed to be stopped, there's nobody else that could help.
My pulse began to rise. My breathing was unsteady, getting too fast I was getting light-headed.Without thinking I ran out into the open. While running my eyes scanned for a weapon. Then my eye caught the think that knocked Purple Man out: the stick.
Without stopping, or thinking, I grabbed it and scanned for him. He had his back turned to me. I charged out towards him and that's when he turned and kicked his leg. A gut instinct forced me to leap to the left. I jumped at him and hit him in the head. I tried to swing at his face and missed.
"You can't play hero, kid." He said yanking my arm, pulling me towards him. As i dropped the stick, he held me in the chicken wing. I was grunting in pain. Millions of thoughts were racing my mind. I was resisting, despite the pain rushing through my arms and back. He pulled my left arm back further and I felt a sharp pain in my elbow and bone. I heard him yell and he collapsed. My arm went limp.
Daredevil was back up and conscious.
Purple man was grunting. And getting back up. I could feel him trying to brainwash me, but for some fortunate reason, my mind would let it happen.
Daredevil kicked him in the face and he was asleep. After dragging him around for a while, the city began to the wake up. I could hear police sirens, people talking. Daredevil took him to Precinct. The police have off the feeling all this commotion that's been going on the last few weeks, was over.
