A year later
"Where is he? It's the last prom that we'll ever attend and he's late?!"
"I'm sure he'll be here soon" said mom, trying to make me feel better about the situation.
"I'm just going to go and make sure my presents are all sorted" I said, going up the stairs and into my room.
Why am I so panicky? I know he'd never let me down, so why am I thinking he is?
"Karen! Can you come downstairs please?" shouted mom.
I plodded downstairs to see River's parents standing there. I screwed my face up slightly because I couldn't see River.
"Hello there Mr and Mrs Phoenix, is everything alright?" I asked.
"Em, well...Karen, River has been in a very serious car crash. He's in a critical, but stable condition in Mountview hospital." Mrs Phoenix said, in a very sad and dull tone.
I stood there. I didn't say a word. What do I do?
"Karen, will Riv be okay?" asked Caleb whilst tugging my dress.
I just stood there, shaking my head. Tears rolling down my cheeks.
