lauren and jack sat across from each other on lauren's balcony window, the sound of the waves crashing on the beach outside the house filling the night's otherwise silence.

jack watched lauren, his dark eyes taking in the girl he hadn't seen in months. he missed her, not just being with her, but even just seeing her everyday.

"i'm sorry," he spoke, his raspy voice filling the peaceful air.

the brunette's light eyes flicked over to the handsome boy sitting beside her, and her heart clenched but she replied,

"sorry? sorry doesn't fix my broken heart. sorry doesn't give me all the days back that i wasted waiting for you to show up these past few months. sorry doesn't make me believe you cared. sorry doesn't mean anything. sorry means you realize your mistakes, not that you're going to make things better, that you'll fix it. it doesn't mean shit. " lauren replied, her voice eerily calm, her emotions hiding in the perfect way she learned to hide them ever since she left omaha.

jack's mouth fell open a little and he looked at the girl's straight face, how her eyes wouldn't dare to meet his and he sighed in frustration.

"lauren, i love you." he said softly, tears filling his eyes.

"you throw the word love around like you do apologies." she replied, her eyes staying locked on the ocean in front of her.

jack huffed and shook his head, standing up and starting to walk back into the house, and lauren let out a silent and shakey breath.

"why are you still going after me? i'm over you." lauren asked softly, her voice shakey and tears threatened to spill, looking out to the beach that resided below the shared house.

"old habits die hard." jack mumbled softly before turning his back to the nineteen year old girl and walking inside.
