Bubbles POV
~~~
"YOU!"
Buttercup hung over Boomer, seething with unspoken rage and confusion. She turned her head back to look at me.
"How did you not know that you were going out with a Rowdyruff?"
I cleared my throat. Innocently, I clasped both hands together and looked down.
"Well...I kinda did know."
Her eyes widened, and her rage disappeared for a split second. Then Buttercup roared out,
"YOU KNEW!?"
Boomer furrowed a brow. "Yeah, she knew. She's fine with me. I..."
We locked eyes, and his lips stretched into a smile. "I've changed. I'm not who I used to be."
Instantly, whispers spread around the room. Buttercup's eye developed a tic as she quickly got over her shock. Her fiery gaze returned to Boomer, who looked utterly terrified.
"Sure. Sure you aren't."
She got up close into his face and yelled, "LIAR!"
It happened quickly. Boomer slapped Buttercup's face and shot out of the gym door in a burst of dark blue light. Buttercup quickly recovered and shot after him, me trailing close behind.
She chased him high into the sky, reaching the top floor of one of Townsville's bigger skyscrapers. She grinned insanely and put on a burst of speed, clenching a hand on his neck and pushing him up against the glass surface.
"You lie to my sister...I kill you..." she said, hatred dripping from her voice.
"NO!"
Without thinking, I barreled forward. I came between them, knocking Buttercup's hand from Boomer's neck. I spread my arms in a protective gesture over him, a grimace on my face. He placed a hand on my shoulder.
"Stop it, Buttercup. He's telling the truth! Boomer's changed, I promise!"
Her eyes nearly glowed now with rage. "How do you know, though!? Why would he just change for no reason? Villains don't just wake up and say, 'You know, I think I'll change the course of my whole life!' He's just lying!"
"No, I'm not. I have a reason for turning a new leaf."
He hugged me slightly from behind, making my cheeks warm. "This right here is my reason."
Buttercup shook her head, looking confused. "How exactly did she do that?"
He carefully lowered my arms and floated beside me. "We started talking not too long ago, one day when we decided we didn't want to fight. We were both stressed, and we just kept our chats a secret. We started talking more and more, and well, she convinced me to stop being evil. We've kept it all a secret."
She exhaled slowly. "What about Butch?..."
He raised a brow. "What do you mean by that?"
She closed her eyes. "Did either of your brothers change their minds?"
He shook his head, making his nicely-combed hair start to spike out again. I felt the weirdest urge to touch it. It looked really soft and shiny.
Buttercup hung her head. "Well, as you haven't attacked Bubbles after all this time, I guess I can trust you...a little."
She looked up, making direct eye contact. "Try anything, and you will die."
He nodded quickly. Buttercup turned around and flew back to the gym, probably to talk with Blossom about what had happened.
I turned to him. "So..I guess the secret's out. What will your brothers do?"
Boomer shrugged nonchalantly. "Kill me, after giving me a very loud lecture."
I giggled. He looked down at me, smiling. He looked a lot better when his freckles were showing.
I could feel his fingers grasp mine, but strangely, I didn't want to pull away. His face grew pink, and I could feel warmth seeping into my cheeks. Slowly, we drifted closer together, lidding our eyes halfway. Our faces gradually got closer and closer.
My phone started ringing.
I felt like breaking it into a million pieces.
Boomer POV
~~~
I almost summoned my electric bat and broke Bubbles's phone.
I wasn't sure what exactly had happened there, but I knew it was leading to something I'd never thought I'd do. Something amazing that I probably didn't deserve.
But that stupid phone had ruined it.
Bubbles was visibly ticked, but her voice still sounded cheerful and sweet. It was a wonder how she did that. I could hear her talking, but I couldn't tell what the words were. I was still seeing her face, merely inches from mine, vulnerable and filled with...something I'd never really had directed at me before.
It wasn't until Bubbles hung up that I zoned back in.
She grabbed my hand, making my face slightly heat up.
"C'mon, Boomie. Blossom needs to 'get some things straight.'"
"Don't call me that!"
"Okay, let me get this straight. Boomer, one of our worst enemies of all time, has turned good?"
Bubbles nodded, clearly exasperated at having to explain it so many times. "Yes, Blossom, he's good now. He saw that he was on the wrong side of the chessboard."
Blossom rubbed her temples, still confused. "I just don't get it," she said quietly, shifting her pink-eyed gaze to me. "Why would you suddenly change? What's your motive?"
I smiled again, not bothered by the question. Even though it was asked a million times, I liked answering it. Bubbles blushed every time she heard me say it, which made her look cute.
"Bubs. She helped me see what I was doing wrong. I've been gradually seeing it over the years, but I was too unsure to act on the suspicion. Bubbles helped guide me through it."
Blossom smiled at my response. "I guess that makes sense. If anyone could make someone good, it's Sugar Cookie here. I'm not still fully putting any permanent trust in you, but I guess I can coexist."
I sighed at the mention of sides. My brothers were going to freak.
I'm not going to even try imagining what Mojo would think. What Him would do...that's a whole other level of frightening.
I forced a shaky smile. "Thanks for giving me a chance."
Bubbles hugged me gently, and after saying our goodbyes, I walked her home.
(A/N) Sooooooooooo?
I think it's one of the cutest endings I've written! :3 What do you think?
I gave you that fluff and stuff I promised!
...So now it's time for violence.
Muahahaha.
Ah, don't worry, it won't be too bad. Nothing Harry Potter doesn't have.
And yes, I will still add fluff every now and then. It is a Boomubbles fic, after all!
Cya!
