Sphinks: Book 1

Chapter 2

Suddenly I'm standing in the Cathedral, that is dimly lit by candles and chandlers. It has a sort of eeriness to it. As I walk down the aisle towards the altar a figure steps out from behind the shadows. I stop dead in my tracks as I realize who it is. Victor's eyes start to glow red as he walks toward me, I can smell his stench.

"Hello Lauren." He hisses slyly.

My blood begins to boil and my heart races. I can feel changes in my body begin to happen. Before I can realize what is happening my face begins to turn into that of a dogs. My arms and legs begin to form into dog legs, but longer and bigger than just any dog, a wolf, a very large wolf. My eye sight sharpens and my sense of smell increases. I can smell how disgusting he smells, like a million bodies on fire.

"What do you want Satan?" I growl through my snarling teeth.

"Oh you know, Just to take over this church and make it my own, maybe even branch out. Try different Cathedrals." He glances around, "They are so beautiful and castle like."

"This is the house of God and you are not welcome here! Get out!" I snap, drool is dripping from my snarling snout.

"Hah! Not for long." He smirks, then lifts his arms toward the ceiling. The walls catch on fire and every crucifix is turned upside down. The statues of saints and holy figures are in rubble across the floor and the altar is broke in half.

I lunged toward him to attack but I am knocked sideways by a hell hound. I am thrown directly into the pews. As I shake my head and try to stand up, a hell hound jumps on me and begins to claw at me. He opens his mouth and grabs my head in his jaws. I can feel my skull begin to cave in. I scream out in pain, while Victor is in the back ground laughing. Everything is fading to black-

"Lauren, Lauren! Wake up!"

I jump up and look around to see where I am.

"It's getting close to the end of the school day, you should probably head upstairs and gather your things" Jana says.

"Right," I hesitated, 'Yeah okay." I got up from the bed and walked toward the door. I stopped in the door frame and turned towards her. "Thanks for letting me stay in here today. I appreciate it."

Jana smiled a 'you're welcome' as I turned to walk of the office and head to the nearest stairs.

As I walk up the stairs all I could think is, "What the hell kind of dream was that?"

I walk to my last class of the day, which happens to be my homeroom where my locker is. I knock on the door and wait for someone to open it. Finally my teacher, Mrs. Fallon, opens the door and lets me in.

"Glad to see you're alright, Lauren. Just go ahead and pack up. We are about to head down stairs for dismissal."

I flash a smile at her and walk to my locker. People whisper all around me. Tonya's locker is right next to mine and I knew she would question everything.

"What happened?" She asked me with a very concerned look on her face.

"I felt like I was going to throw up so I was on my way to the bathroom in the back of the cathedral and slipped on some water that was on the floor." I said while loading up my backpack with assignments I missed.

"Dang, well I'm glad you're okay. Who found you?" she asked.

I turned toward her and kind of sighed, "His name is Jason. He works at the church and plays the organ at mass sometimes."

She raised her eyebrows, "What was he doing down there?"

"God only knows, but I'm glad he found me." The bell rang and I closed my locker. Everyone lined up at the door and began to walk downstairs.
