Every second felt like an hour. Every step, closer to something so little, yet so big, something that could change Brendon's life forever. He was so happy to get the opportunity to do this, but.. He wasn't ready.
"I can't do this." The words came out before Brendon even thought about them. Ryan turned his head and looked at Brendon, worry washed all over his face. He turned around and cocked his head to the side. "What do you mean?" He asked the younger boy, looking him straight in the eyes. Brendon sighed and dropped his head. "This, whatever we're about to do. I thought that I was ready, but I'm not." Ryan frowned slightly. It must've been his anxiety because his heart started beating rapidly fast. Was he mad? "Hey, it's okay. You obviously need time to think this all over, and that's okay. We're ready as soon as you are." Ryan laid his hands on Brendon's shoulders, rubbing them in a comforting way. "B-but I don't want you and the others to throw all this away, it's a once-in a lifetime opportunity and I don't want to hold you back from taking it."
"Hey hey, calm down Brendon, it's okay." Ryan's words only made him more upset. "N-no it's not. It's my fault, you guys won't get an amazing future just because I can't do this." Tears were now streaming down Brendon's face and he felt like breaking down. Ryan pulled him into a hug. "Brendon, please answer me, truthfully, okay?" Ryan took a deep breath before asking his question. "Are you okay? You don't look okay, not at all." That question, those three words, was the breaking point for Brendon. He started sobbing into Ryan's shoulder. His legs gave out & he held himself onto the other boy like a koala. Ryan sat down & scooted slowly against the wall, all while still holding his best friend and placed him into his lap, stroking his hair and trying to calm him down. "Hey, it's okay, really. I'll be here for you, no matter whatever's going on in your pretty little head. Don't you worry about it, just calm down for now. Alright?" Ryan hugged him tighter and placed a light kiss on the top of his head.
