In the yellow haze of fairy lights, all Lada could think about was the loud snoring coming from her dad's room. She glanced towards the fluorescent orange earplugs atop her bedside table but thought better of actually moving to get them, because of the effort it would take, and that was effort she wasn't exactly willing to put in. Besides, if she were to put them in, she would never hear her annoying best friend, Pan, tapping on her window to get in. (How he even managed to get up there still confused her, but she decided to not dwell on it. Anyway, his parents didn't give a damn about him sneaking out to see her because they cared more about the alcohol they drunk than their own kid. But, that was another story for another time.)
Her eyes flickered around the room as she waited for this to happen, eventually coming to rest on her amethyst necklace strewn from the lampshade above her bed. Looking at it gave off an aura of rest, and as she continued to stare, she couldn't even attempt to stifle the yawn that fell from her mouth (or the ones that followed after, for that matter). Pan had to arrive soon, or Lada would be fast asleep, or grouchy, depending on whether or not his knocks were loud enough to actually rouse her. It differed each night, but often times she was just grouchy because of the day she had already been through (people who clearly had no idea what the heck they were talking about trying to correct her work in her Media class and a lack of coffee did not mix well, especially in the last lesson of the day on a Friday).
Then, the normal knocks came, and she pulled herself back to reality, crawling carefully over to the window and opening it to allow Pan inside. He nodded at her, mouthing a thank you as he carefully launched himself onto her bed, making sure he didn't knock her television over, but leaving her to pull in his backpack and shut the window, before making her own attempt to actually get back to safety, landing on Pan as she did so (which earned a groan from the poor guy). "Why do you always do that?" He whispered, running his fingers through her messy hair which was clouding her face as she buried into his chest.
"Shut up, you like it really," she mumbled sleepily against his chest, which caused him to laugh quietly, his torso rising and falling as he did, and she laughed at the same time because of the movement.
"Whatever," he chuckled, calming down slightly. "So, any gossip about Ezra that I should know about?" Ezra was Lada's long-standing crush, and he consumed most of the talks the pair had (and had done so for the past two years. Yes, two years. That's a long time to like someone and not get over them, so surely the crush had graduated from like to love at some point). It was funny though, as the pair had come from hating each other's guts to actually getting on like a house on fire, telling dirty jokes and such. (Lada and Pan, not Ezra. The poor girl could barely utter a syllable his way without it being swooped up by nerves.)
"Apart from the fact he's still with Darcy, no. It's impossible to talk to the guy or anything, especially when we're in Film Studies and Theatre Studies together, and I just had to be put in a group with him for those classes. I'm not coping, man," she said, laughing. Pan smiled at her, sighing sadly to himself. This was his best friend, who was quite obviously hung up over some guy who would never like her back. At least, not in the way he liked her.
Ezra had sandy brown hair and blue eyes as clear as a summer sky, which had every single girl in their year falling for him hook, line, and sinker. Pan, on the other hand, was the complete opposite end of the spectrum: just as tall as Ezra, but with raven black hair that he was only just beginning to grow out, and eyes as dark as Bournville chocolates (Lada's favourite type of chocolate, to be exact). He was as charismatic and quick-witted as Ezra was sharp-tongued and bitter. So, how was it that Lada was able to find herself drawn to someone as douchey as that? It made Pan question everything the girl actually stood for in terms of potential suitors.
Speaking of her, she was absolutely stunning in his eyes, and as her namesake was a goddess, it was difficult to not see her in such a glorious light. Her (currently disheveled) chest length auburn hair fell in a wonderful halo around her face, and her gorgeously brown eyes peered up into his, trying to fathom what it was that he was actually thinking about at that current moment in time. He allowed himself to be pulled back into that moment, ruffling her hair which earned him a glare from her, and then allowed her to actually get up and switch off the fairy lights that were lighting up the room around them. And as they sat there, with her wrapped up in his arms, her arms draped around his waist, and her head tucked into his neck, Pan couldn't help thinking how much he had fallen for the girl he was holding onto, and how problematic this could potentially be for them both.
A/N: HELLO HEY HI I'M KINDA BACK.
Did you miss me?
Of course you did.
Anyways, I wrote this because I'm kind of trying to prepare myself for my Creative Writing A-Level which I (hopefully!) start in September. I actually started writing this in my notebook, so I was just typing this up from handwritten notes.
The first chapter is a lot longer than I thought it would be purely because I added in a lot of bits and pieces and edited out some stuff.
But I put this here because I wanted to share it with you guys, as my first piece of non-fanfic writing. And this is the first piece I actually have confidence in, because the characters are my own, the story is my own, and the words are (mainly) my own. I mean, I may use quotes from my daily life, but most of it has come from my own head.
Anyway, I honestly hope you enjoyed the first chapter, and I will try and write soon as well, but I have my exams coming up so I have to think about those too.
Bye guys :)
