Violet's POV
I got the call from Howard an hour ago. I had been watching the news because Stella had informed me to turn it on. The call is what put me here. I stood in the same position, my cup of tea across the floor. The delicate cup shattered into thousands of pieces.
Someone rapped on my door. "Violet? V let me in!"
My head was spinning. I almost fell to my knees. I blinked back into reality and ran, almost tripping, to the door. When I opened it, before me stood Lilly. "V are you alright? I've been knocking for almost half an hour! I saw you standing there through the curtain on the door window!" She said.
My vision was blurred. I tried desperately to focus my eyes on Lilly's terrified face. I shook my head and blinked my eyes a few times. My hands were shaking violently. "Th-the... Di-D... M-Mar-Marci an-and the b-bridge...?" I sputtered, my mouth not wanting to work.
Lilly looked even more worried and confused. "What? What about Marci and the bridge? Is she alright?" She asked. Her brown eyes glittered with fear.
That's when the phone rang. We both nearly jumped out of our skins. Lilly reached into her back pocket to answer the call. Her hands were slightly shaking as she hit the green button and lifted the phone to her ear. "H-hello?" She asked quietly.
I fell to my knees feeling weak and stared at nothing. Lilly kept talking on the phone to whoever was on the other line and I spaced out. My mind was racing. Why would Marci do this? Will she be okay? What will we do if she dies? She's so young! I couldn't live without her... She was my best friend.
Lilly started to shake my shoulders. I looked up to her see her face was streaked with tears, her eyes puffy and red. "Violet! Please answer me!" She said.
I pulled away and stood up, wobbling slightly. "What do you want. Who was on the phone?"
"It was Howard, he told me everything."
My eyes opened and I stood up straighter. "Come on. We're leaving."
Z's POV
I sat kneeling next to my girlfriends dying body. My face was red and puffy from me crying so hard. My breath was shaken, and my back stuttered with my sobs. "Please no. No please god please no. Not my Marci. Please not her. I can't live without her. Howard please tell me she's gonna wake up. This can't be happening. No please no. No god please no." I begged.
Howard knelt down next to me and held me in his arms. He was just like a big brother to me. I wiped my face with my sweatshirt sleeve and looked up at him. He was on the verge of tears, and smiled weakly. "Don't worry Z. Marci's tough as nails. She wouldn't give up on you. She loves you."
"B-but what if she doesn't wake up...?" I barely whispered.
Howard tensed. "Don't worry about that now. She'll be fine. I promise you."
The doctor walked in and we both stood up frantically. He motioned for me to leave.
I glanced at Howard worriedly and cautiously walked silently into the hallway.
Howard's POV
Z left and the doctor looked at me and sighed. "I have some bad news..." He said.
My heart dropped.
