* Chapter 1 *

Little fragments of paradise.

That's all I can think of during math.

"Brooke, what do you think the method is for quadratic equations?"

Everyone in class looked to me for the answer. A few classmates were smirking as they clearly knew that I would mess up.

I cleared my thoughts preparing myself to speak up but luckily - before I could embarrass myself - the class was interrupted.

"Brooke Chamder, Rose Hampet and Kady Gambott?"

Mr Smitley was stood at the door impatiently waiting for the three girls, tapping his foot repeatedly.

Our math teacher, Mrs Brumbly answered him sharply.

"What is the reason for disturbing my class, Mr Smitley?"

Mr Smitley quietly glared at Mrs Brumbly, the tension in the air growing before responding,

"Are those girls available for the head-teacher to speak to?"

Everyone looked toward Mrs Brumbly, waiting for a snarky remark to be said. But instead of saying anything she only looked towards me.

"Brooke, take your friends and yourself to the head teachers office immediately."

I grabbed my bag as my fellow classmates followed my actions. We all stood and made our way to Mr Smitley who was leaning against the doorframe with a smirk on his face. Let me tell you now a smirk shouldn't be on a forty-year olds face.
