My eyes are open. They flash with a need. I have awoken, and all I know is hunger. I appear to be in a form of cocoon. There's no air in here. Only liquid. I summon the strength, and kick through. The liquid rushes through and I find myself in an old cave.
Ah, you're awake my little changeling. Excellent. Welcome back.
I let out a chirp of surprise.
Do not be afraid. Mother is here now.
Who?
Another amnesiac? Why do none of them remember me?
The voice sounded almost sad.
I am your queen, your mother, chrysalis. Do you remember now?
No.
She let out a longful sigh.
I made my way to the cave entrance, and saw ruin. Only ruin. How long have I been hibernating?
Around two hundred years.
How is that even possible?
My hunger came back to me. I was starving. It was painful how much I needed to eat.
It's a good thing you have a sibling providing.
I felt something pouring into my mind. It fed me. It felt... good. It's hard to describe.
What was that?
Emotions. Good ones. You'll have to thank your sibling if you ever see nir.
Hibernating for two hundred years? Feeding off of emotion?
What am I? Some weird parasite?
In a sense, but don't think of yourself that way. Think of yourself as something higher. Better than a parasite, better than a pony, better than anything, for you are one of my few remaining children. You, are a changeling. And you will need a disguise if you want to survive, as you'll need to feed again soon.
And what am I going to do? Drape a blanket over my head?
I must go, zhaele. I am needed elsewhere.
-------------------------------------------------
So, I have a name. Zhaele. Name's are important. They provide identity.
I begin my trek.
What happened here? Why are all these buildings so... destroyed? Occasionally I see something skitter past, but I can't make out what it is. I'm beginning to get hungry again. The amount I had consumed was small. Hours go on. My hunger grows worse and worse. Almost unbearable. Can I not just eat anything? And who is Nir? Queen says he is my brother, but I do not remember.
I heard noise ahead, behind a ruin.
